New Front Axle problem fix

Post by xirdneh »

recently picked up two new front axles that had the seal flange located too far outward
this caused the seal lip protrusion to be too tight against the seal flange
also does not allow seal to seat properly on axle
pictures of the seal flange on new axle
and how i knocked it back to .44-.45"
its kind hard to see the old bearing race that fits the shaft up against the seal flange in the picture showing how i knocked it back
new axle was at .38

i found out it was bad after installing steering knuckle assy and noticed the wheel hub was very hard to turn

pictures are in reverse order start at bottom

Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.

Exactly what I encountered back in 2007!
See viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3283&hilit=GSP
Are yours GSP as well? I think Advance - and possibly others now - sell GSP under its own label now (or at least that is what an ADV counterperson told me a few years ago).

I do not remember what brand, will try to find out when I can. Got both from rockauto.

HA! RA was the vendor for my GSP!

EDIT: Note, that after the initial probs with the flingers, I've been happy with the GSP axles!
While several have been happy with the EMPI new axles over the years, apparently those are NLA.

Rockauto sells lot of brands, not their fault if their supplier makes a mess of the parts. I once ordered some seals from RA, most were good, brand name seals. One had the wrong part in the box, they sent the right part number that was on the box, but that was not the correct seal in it. It was only a few $ so I did not bother to return it (local store had one in stock anyway).
