Hello from Yakima WA, Meet Mr. T

Post by YakSr5 »

Hello, i recently signed up to this site because i recently purchased a 1985 Tercel. I am no stranger to the Tercel, it was my first car. i got it in 1998 and modified it heavily. here is a pic. I called it the "Shaggin Wagon" those Seven interior handles in SR5were very....useful lol
Image

Sadly i was T-boned in about 2000 and the "shaggin wagon"was totaled. i always told myself id get another, and that day came about 20 years later.

This one has been dubbed "Mr. T"

Image

A good friend bought this in Idaho, and knew how much i wanted one. he took it on two idaho gambler 500 races and sold it to me. with my advice from my build back in 1998 he added some bigger tires and wheels

Image

He found 3 15" escort wheels and used a steelie for the 4th. they look good with the 215 70r15 snow tires. he used some rubber spring spacers to get the lift.

Image
Much improved look. it ran the Gambler without any problems. helping many vehicles along the way. I will probably leave this one alone for now. it runs and drives well. it also rips it up off road.

Plans Include barto lift. 4ac swap skid plates and bumpers front and rear. stay tuned.

welcome to the forum!

nice looking T4wd. Gambler race sounds like fun, what is it about? a low budget off road run?

Excellent! A worthwhile up grade. make sure you give it a good once over, rings, bearings, etc. also read about my head gasket mods over in the Repair guides section, use the procedure there to install the head.

Do you recall by any chance the size of the tires and what the wheels came off of in the first picture? My Tercel is also missing the front bumper and I like the way those tires/wheels look. Thanks in advance!

Those were 14" universal steel wheels from les schwab. the tires were 27x8.5 Cooper SST mud tires. i dont think they make them anymore.

Been using Mr T as a daily all winter, and worked out some bugs.

Not much snow this year to have fun in just lots of rain

Interested to see how the supra seats look. I haven't sat in one of those seats since 2004, and I remember they had those air bladders that you can regulate for your lower back and sides.

I wonder what the story is on how the "Pussy Wagon" got its name.

Petros. Are you familiar with the films of Quentin Tarantino?

not a fan of Tarantino, but I am aware of many of his films. I have even seen a few of them, enough to not care to say any more.
