No longer a lurker

Post by Togashi »

Greetings new friends, I have decided to finally post and document the full restoration of my near mint 85 Tercel.
I got my 85 in September of 2015 for the small sum of just $700 and with only 178.000km on it, The ad was 12 min old when I saw it one night and I knew after 4 years of searching I had found the car I had been looking for. The car was bought by an older man in 89 and only ever driven in town plus never saw a winter as long as he owned it. I got the car with some basic issues mostly related to it's age (leaking seals, warped rotors, worn cv) all of the repairs the car needed have been done apart from the cv's. The car is in near mint shape the only thing it need's is paint due to the clear coat lifting and a few small part's to make it perfect. I have taken it upon myself to insure this car will be on the road long after I die of old age meaning no winter driving and never ever overlooking even a spot of rust. This summer I am taking the car into a professional classic auto restoration shop to have the small surface rust on the hood and rear fenders (rock chip's and thankfully not in the body seams) plus a new coat of paint. I will carefully document each and every step of this project for mine and your enjoyment.

welcome to the forum!

nice find. looks like mis-matched wheels, the rear one looks like a corolla wheel.

Back ones where older Honda Civic front where off an 86 Chevette I have sitting in the yard, Just threw what I had laying around on it so I can move it around the yard, Good wheels and rims are on my 97 Tercel. I did just pick up 8 of these though I think with a little polishing they will look beautiful Image
they will definitely make the car pop when it's done, Might have the worse 4 of the 8 painted to match the car, I will have to make a few center caps but not a big deal.

Take care when using mismatched tiers in your tercel.
They have a tendency to "bind up" the front to rear gear sets. :oldgeek:

Your car looks great! I can't believe you found such a mint car! Very rare find here in the interior.

I hope those rims work out for you.

I like it a lot nice and quiet most of the time I have a little place 6 km out of town, Only downside is there are no other Tercel enthusiast local to me, few owners but they just treat them as drivers. I was in Nelson last weekend and saw 7 different Tercel's 5 of them belong to the kind person who sold me the rims.

Midnight Kijiji browsing, It's funny really I found my car the same way. it was a set of 4 for $100 but she was kind enough to sell me both set's and a drivers door panel for $190. 10 hour round trip but well worth it I think.

Cool. Please share the story of how and where you found your car. It is rare to find one in such good condition!
