see if you can determine the brand on the genuine toyota brake shoes, likely Toyota is just buying them from a vender. It would be good to know who they buy them from so we can buy the same ones from auto parts stores or on line.

But if you want to get the car on the road, no reason you could not just use the cheap brake shoes, you can always swap them out later.

I had kept my receipt and was able to return the Brake Best brake shoes. The guy at the counter did some investigating to see if they were even the correct part number and they weren't. I'll have the Toyota shoes today. I'll see if I can determin who they contracted to make them and post pictures of them.

the toyota parts will come in a Toyota box with their part number on it, but usually you can find a logo on the part itself. If not the parts counter may have access to their vendor data base and can look it up by the toyota part number.

Well here they are although I can't really tell if they are made by a third party.

no logos I can find, except that circle with a sylized "T" in it stamped in the edge of the lining material. running all of the part numbers only yield "made by toyota" everywhere these part numbers were listed.

Interesting NAPA sold brake parts with the same kind of part numbe string, but their website did not state the manufacturer.

Today after work I started going through my vacuum lines and one-by-one replacing them. Unfortunately one of the nipples broke off the vacuum fitting on the number 1 intake runner (Gas Filter). Must have been very heat enbrittled cause I was being very careful with them.

Does anyone in Seattle have a spare I could buy? Or anywhere for that matter, I'll pay shipping.

These were used in a lot of different toyota models in the 80's, you should be able to find one at PicknPull, there are two 80's Tercels (one is 4wd) in the Arlington picknpull right now. likely you can find something in the Lynnwood one that will work. I think you can still buy them new as well.

I might have one somewhere in my boxes of junk, I may have to travel to lynnwood tomorrow evening, if you do not find one perhaps we can meet wedesday evening and I will give it to you.

all it does is have a baffle to prevent fuel from going up into the vacuum system.

Got it all sorted today. timothygodden gave me the gas filter of his old 3a and showed me around his 20 valve swap. It is a very nice project. I was drooling when he showed me the motor.

I'm still having drivability issues. Ever since I replaced my vacuum lines it's been idling very low and erratically. I was very careful to only replace one vacuum line at a time and have since checked the vacuum diagram three times. Any suggestion? It's getting poor fuel economy and smelling of gas fumes. But when it gets above 2000 rpm it comes alive like a rocket.

have you checked the spark plugs? might be running too rich from AAP leaking into vac system.

Also, do not assum the original vac lines were installed properly, often mechanics mess these up. So double check the routing just to make sure.

Also, make sure there are no other vacuum leaks on any of the components or hard metal lines.

Yes, I just changed the spark plugs and wires and when I did I paid close attention to how the electrodes looked. I did make sure that all vacuum lines were routed as I replaced them referring to the color coded vacuum diagram posted in the repair guides. I'm going to check for vacuum leaks today. I bought a can of starter fluid to puff around in the engine compartment. Thanks for the suggestion.

I think I may have found the problem.

As you can see my distributor is seized at full mechanical advance. Do you guys think this is the source of my problem? It's very stuck! I think I'm going to have tear it apart to free it up.
