I also discovered I have the PHYSICALLY LARGER 50amp alternator, that IS EXTERNALLY REGULATED. :-)

87-88 wagons will also share parts with 83-86 hatchbacks/wagons.

I think they sound horrible without a muffler, in my opinion

Most 83-84's will have the larger externally regulated alternator.

I think for how vital cooling is on these engines, a new double row radiator for $80-100 is a better deal

LeeBiew - I think you set a record for the longest post here - ever!
You've documented a lot of work - way to go!
Now you know one reason so many of us love our T4WDs; they give a sense of accomplishment and realization that we are real mechanics (well, at least on 30+-year old Toyota econoboxes)!

My 84 had an external alternator, but I think my 83 has an internal regulator, I can't tell by looking at it, but I don't see the external regulator either.

Great to know that the later large MR2 brakes with VW golf rotors can be made to work on the Tercel. I have a set of those larger MR2 brakes in my garage waiting for a time I want to try it out. that info should be added to the brake upgrade thread.

great information regarding the mk1b aw11 brakes. now it's going to be even more difficult to find mk1b brakes for my girlfriend's mk1a aw11. we may fight for the next available junkyard one

You may want to read this first before trying those brakes:

I am still running those brakes now and they are still AWESOME!!! Heavy braking from 130kmh and no brake fade! 20,000+ kms put into the brakes now. (with 15" T-rated tires)

What color is the paint in the engine compartment on a factory yellow car? I've never seen one.
