The beast died in the middle of an intersection last night

Post by gnarnold »

Right before that happened it died in my buddy's driveway .took the air cleaner lid off and pumped the carb manually and it started right up .got about a 1/4 mile down the road and it started cutting out then just died .upon inspection noticed no gas in sight glass .tested fuel pump and its pumping gas .try the gas pedal and it does not appear to be squirting out of the side at all .I'm pretty sure it's in the carb .but before I commit to that adventure if thought I would check with you guys for any other possibilities.

Do not assume it is the carburator, except by elimination. check for leaks in your fuel lines up stream of the fuel pump, by pass the fuel filter (or replace it) to check that it is not plugged. verify fuel pump pressure, and that it pumps fuel. . Than look for vacuum leak(s), a bad one (or multiple small ones) will make it act that way too. if fuel supply checks out, than look at the carb.

the idea is to check the easy stuff first, and than move on to the more difficult/costly fixes later. make sure you diagnose the problem before you try and fix it.

good luck.

Well it was the Chinese fuel pump that I just replaced a month ago .if I had a nickle for every time a brand new part went bad right away , I'd have about $1.50

that is why I avoid buy parts made in communist factories, if at all possible.
