Controller arm is loose or just fine ?

Post by gnarnold »

Hello guys well I was hearing a rattle on the front pass side wheel so I jacked it up and wiggled the wheel and it wiggles knowing that most likely it's the bearing.I noticed a significant size gap between the bushing and the chassis with the control arm should that be torqued to specific tightness or just tighted til no more gap
I used to laugh at the man with a pinto  , until I became a humble servicer of a tercel :|

Gap between the rubber or the bolt sleeve inside the rubber?

Tighten to spec and hope the bolt isn't seized to the sleeve or even worse, the "captive" nut in the frame is spinning.

need to know exactly what parts you are talking about. control arm at the inboard end where it bolts to the body? there should be a rubber bush in there, that does not fill the space. the frame where the bolt goes through actually clams on the inner metal sleeve, not on the rubber bushing itself. you should see a space between the rubber and the metal of the body.
