Ok here's the deal it sounds like it's gonna turn over but right when it does it makes like a back fire noise and shoots a little fire out of the carb and it. Pulls the battery charge down a lot .

Ok to all who are mystified by my dilemma rest assured this top notch member might be due for a promotion .after drowing myself in past threads reliving the frustrations of yesteryear.I decided to take it from the top and do the timing dance once again and EUREKA!
It turns out this ImageImageImage
The woodruff key was moving in the slot enough to bend the woodfuff housing .thus preventing time from being kept.
Now the question is where do I get a new timing sprocket wheel thing.???

If it were me I'd weld it up and file the keyway back into righteousness. If you weren't in a hurry I would say mail it to me so I can fix it for you. But your street sweeper comment makes me think you don't have a lot of time.

a quick and dirty temp fix is to use epoxy with fine metal shavings in as a filler, glue it all back together in the correct orientation, and after it is hard, it will start and run...for a while. You can get what you need at an auto parts store right now, get it back together, and get it moved. Just make sure you clean the parts good so everything bonds together.

I think the early Miata had a similar problem, and they used this as as a permanent fix because in their case the front crank groove was getting enlarged and buggered up. Replacing the crank is a big costly job, but filling the void with epoxy seemed to do the trick. quick and simple.

Not sure I would trust it long term, but it will give you time to get replacement parts, and get it off the road.

good luck.

Your crank bolt wasn't tight. The keyway is only for positioning. Clamping force keeps the gear from turning on the crank nose.

make sure the centrifugal advance in the distributor works properly and not frozen up. Usually soak in penetrating oil and wiggling it free is all it needs, but may also need to be taken apart, rust cleaned out and parts polished and lubed.

either you have weak spark, or not enough fuel, or spark at the wrong time. check for vacuum leaks, could make it run weak and back fire.

good luck.

Ok now it sounds crazy but all the sudden there's no fuel in the sight glass now that I think about it I thought maybe it was from the carb since it too was leaking around the base but fixed it (pre-current issue) the fuel level is lower mid point maybe half way from dead bottom in the sight glass.
And I am now 50 $ the lesser . Not fast enough with the rain .and all.
