Replacing rear coil springs

Post by jann_e_gunn »

I'm looking into replacing my rear struts and coil springs. I have the struts already, on clearance from rock auto, but haven't gotten the springs. searching autozones site It comes up with these duralast springs:

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/ ... 4900_11722_

searching Rockauto, the only thing I see excludes wagons. And now browsing the forum, it seems there aren't any aftermarket springs that do fit the wagons. Could anyone give me the lowdown on this?

Thanks, Jann E. Gunn

due to parts being NLA, it appears that the only way to replace t4 rear coil springs is to find something that is a close fit and go with that. the closest to that i have seen on here is people using the 85-95 pathfinder rear springs but that is for a lift and also requires different shocks.

if you want to stay stock, the best thing to do is take measurements of a t4 real coil spring, give those to a spring shop, and have them find a spring that is similar and readily available. i am actually in the process of doing this for my 4wd corolla wagon and am just waiting for the new springs to come in. the shop i am using asked for the following measurements.

inside diameter of coil
wire thickness
overall length installed (bear in mind that you're likely replacing springs because they sag a bit so this measurement might actually be a little low)
overall length when not installed
spring end style - flat end or pig tail
# of coils

Scroll down to the delco springs. 2-5 doors is covered, everything but T4. Their # crosses to cc211, trw's look cheapest. They likely meant EXC 4WD wagon. Because they are a one size fits all spring, it's hard to say if they will meet your needs. The cargo coil design does allow some flexibility for multi fit applications though.

Here's spec's if you want to get creative.http://www.moogproblemsolver.com/moog/w ... s_Spec.pdf

Hmmm I just noticed it is the only one that doesn't eplicitly say "sold in pairs". I'm sure that is the case, mine are getting shipped ahead of me, hopefully so...

I was able to go on summitracing's website and order the following:

Front 2WD w/AC Springs:
ACDelco ADO-45H1055 (88913588) - ACDelco Stock Height Springs
Coil Spring Set $60.97

Rear 2WD Springs:
ACDelco ADO-453068 (88913829) - ACDelco Stock Height Springs
Coil Spring Set $65.97

Hopefully those are the right springs. I'll follow up later next month (out of town on work for a month). These are custom ordered from ACDelco, so It'll be about 2 weeks before they arrive...

None of the springs are available... I'm going to have to make a few phone calls. I can try to call an AC Delco Rep tomorrow to see if they have any specifications or datasheets on the springs they don't offer and if they can cross reference with other springs for similar performance... Just getting their datasheets will be a big win as then i can cross shop with other suppliers/manufacturers.
