13" off road tires? help a brothah out! haha
13" off road tires? help a brothah out! haha
Hey there, I have a stock 86 4wd and looking to do some exploring with the vehicle. My question is what tires out there can be used for off road in a 13"?
I'd like to get a taller tire for some additional ground clearance. What size/tire specific options can you recomend?
Also, I did do a quick search and did not find the clear answer I was looking for,Thank you in advance

There are some other off road tire posts in the forum, but I had trouble finding them as well. In any case, I don't think you're going to have much luck finding suitable 13" off road tires with multiple sidewall layers, etc. Not only that, the 175/70/13 stock tire size is about as tall a 13 as is available, iirc. You might want to get some cheap steel 14" rims or bigger and get some real off road tires.

hberdan's right. i've got 185/80R13's on and they're as big as will fit but good luck finding 13" LT tires, which would be best for serious off-roading. find some 14" rims and dig around for some 195/70R14 LT's.

You dont know how bad I wish they made boggers in our sizes...It would be awesome for what Im planning with my terc. I mean, just imagine coming around a corner to see a tercel with 1/2 doors sitting on 4 of these babys

After doing a tad more research...(Ive actually been doing alot of research on this subject off and on lately) Ive found what to be the best option...
atv tires. Granted youd need another set of rims because as far as I know, its not safe to drive them on the road at 55mph with the weight of a tercel. I mean, if Im wrong about that, and there are atv tires you can drive on the road for distances of 30 miles or so at a time...GREAT! But I highly doubt it. So for now, the best plan would be a roof rack to hold your offroad tires on while you drive to the destination with your street tires.
After some searching I found some guys on a subaru forum were having the same issues. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/sho ... hp?t=20606
Just another thought...tractor tires, like the ones for the front of a 4wd tractor...might be small enough and have a high enough weight rating...but again your limited to like a 25mph top speed...
Edit- I took a tape measure to the rear wheel wells, seams nothing bigger than a 24" tire. Maybe a 25" but it couldnt be too wide, when the suspension compresses, it would slice it to bits on the fender. So...any 24" tall mud tires?

Thank you for you're response everyone, Ido appreciate it.
Looks like im going to run some 14's with snow tires for now, doesnt seem to be a better option unless I swap my axles/trans/motor.lol
O well, should be able to still have some fun as is/ thanks again all.

Re: 13" off road tires? help a brothah out! haha
We've been over this a few times on this forum, good tires are pretty hard to come by for these cars without a lift. It's simply too hard to get good off roading tires in our size. I don't know if it's cuz there isn't a market for it, or if there just isn't enough material/space to get good tread in there.

Petros - where did that second picture come from? I don't think it's appeared here before. Someone took the time to do this drawing to - a T4WD?

Re: 13" off road tires? help a brothah out! haha
there were a number of cool T4wd images with big tires I wanted to post I remember seeing on this site, but I could not find them. There was also a nice one of a Tercel hatch back mounted on a 4x4 truck frame I also wanted to post, but could not find that on this site either (from about 2008). So I did a Google image search and found it. Lots of pics of T4wd on the internet, over half come from this site. I also came across a T4wd set up for pro-ralley but I could not get the link to show up.
