A TVSV works better when it's not hollow.

Post by mmmbeer »

I was replacing some vac lines the other weekend when I noticed there was a black zip tie wrapped over the lowest port on the TVSV and around the big hose below it (can't remember which). After moving it, with no effort at all, the TVSV came apart at the plastic/brass joint. Turns out it was missing all of its innards! There was a little touch of glue at the joint like someone had tried to stick it back together.

The PO was a professor who just took the car to a mechanic whenever it needed anything. I'm guessing the mechanic broke the TVSV and did their best to stick it back on and hold it in place with the zip tie so the owner wouldn't notice. Amazing.

Anyway, I ordered a new TVSV from a place in Richmond, VA ($117 + $6.95 shipping, seemed to be the best price). Installed it and some new vac lines and the car runs great! So much smoother at idle than it used to be.
