Radiator Fan Mystery (to me, anyway) Tube ?

Post by ARCHINSTL »

Having removed the radiator fan for better access when replacing the timing belt - WHAT is the purpose of the clear-ish plastic tube leading from the fan motor to the outside? The FSM makes no mention of its purpose, albeit acknowledging its presence in the exploded drawing.

Is it on the bottom? Probably a low point drain for any condensation that builds up in the motor housing.

I've taken my fan and radiator off before and I've never noticed that drain tube. So yesterday I had a curious look. Mine is missing and I've had my car from brand new and Iserviced it myself all its life. Must be a climate thing.

could be different for different years, or even different parts suppliers. they may have gone to a fully sealed motor at some point.

I have scrapped a fair number of Tercels(only because they were rusted way beyond saving them) :( ,some of the cooling fans had the drain and some of them didn't, could be just a manufacture item.
