sounds like it has a vacuum leak in the fuel system, or the carb is out of adjustment. Both area easy and inexpensive fixes, you just need to find the problem, should not take more than 15-20 min to fix it presuming no major component has failed that is causing the stalling. In every case I have seen these symptoms, it was either a vac leak (easy fix) or the carb was out of adjustment. slight possibility it is a bad AAP, which is also a reasonably easy fix, but takes the right part (not costly). If the AAP in the carb was bad, you would also be getting really poor fuel economy because it would be running rich.

fix the brakes and the muffler, and you can likely get $2500 or more for it.

When you sell any car that is not in drive away condition, you have to discount it heavily. If you need a quick sale, it is perhaps worth $600, as is. Unless you can find an enthusiast who knows how to fix it, than it might be worth about $900.

The other items are minor and common with cars this old, but mushy brakes, stalling and and no muffler means it needs repairs before it can be registered.

So, it is worth it get those items fixed. It wills sell quickly, and for a good price. It will go to someone willing to pay the price to keep it nice.

Good luck.

It's old enough that in WA it doesn't need an inspection to register...
Makes sense on the brakes. I'll get those dealt with for sure and look into the muffler.

Petros - I think you're right on with the AAP being bad. I've been getting crappy fuel economy, and it smells like its running rich.

quick test is to pull off the vac line to the AAP and see if it has fuel in it. If so, than just cap off both ends, it will drive fine after warm up. the AAP only is engaged on cold start up.

not difficult to replace if you can get the part for it, a new diaphragm. may need to buy a carb kit to get it, but there used to be a few places that would sell just the AAP diaphragm by itself.

good luck.
