65k 1985 automatic 4x4

Post by Mattole33 »

I am putting feelers out to sell my 1985 deluxe automatic tercel. 4x4 push button

The all stock car has 64,500 ORIGINAL miles on it. I had it shipped over from Texas from the second owner who owned it for 1 year. Before thay, it had been in a barn. It has a few minor rust spots starting. The interior is darn near immaculate.

I wanted it to be 100% road safe and therefore I had all the following done in the last year at my mechanic (specialty foreign auto in Mckinleyville ca)

A BRAND NEW WEBBER CARB!!! however it will no longer pass California smog. I have kept the old carb parts just in case someone does want to register it with Ca. However I made the choice for better performance and longevity to install the non ca compliment carb.

Steering rack
Front brakes
Front struts
New wheel cylinders
Front left axel
Ignition wire set
Distribution rotor
Distribution cap
4 new tires

My circumstances have changed. However, the car deserves a tercel wagon enthusiast who will treat her well. This car should go for a long long time!
Asking price $ 5,800

Welcome to the Club! Well, at least until you sell the car ... But - Props for showing it here!
Gotta say, though - an asking price of $5800 for an AT 2WD Wagon (AC?), even with 64.5K miles is expecting more than an a awful lot.
Were it a T4WD, even with the same number of miles, it would be more than a lot - esp. if the 4WD had an MT.
The AT Terc, whether 2WD or 4WD, is mostly an urban/suburban vehicle, because of the astronomical revs at highway speeds. Heck, an '85 onwards 4WD at 60 MPH is turning 3000 RPMs, and dunno what the 2WD would do.
Sorry.

It's a 4x4. Push button. With the new webber carb is runs strong at 65mpg. Before the carb replacement is was rough. I do however live where there are extreme grades on country roads and it's nothe the best! It has extremely low miles and is known really good condition. It is road safe. I put quite a bit into the car. Believe it or not I am taking a loss at that asking price.

What do you think a good price is? I have seen these rigs with 220k and really bad condition as 2k.

A/c works

Mattole33 -- curious as to where you're at, because I live out in the Mattole River watershed (in Petrolia) and I know I would have noticed an immaculate white T4 wagon if you lived anywhere within 30 miles

best of luck to you in your endeavors to sell your T4WD at a decent price...

Hey Gary fish.
I had the car in McKinleyville for a few months over the summer while I debated putting in the new carb. I do in fact live in the mattole valley. I live in Petrolia. I have been cruising her around as of lately. Which Tercel are you? There are a few around town. And a few off Lighthouse Road which I am as well. I'm sure you will start seeing me around now hahaha. I feel as if I won't sell the Tercel because I have too much money into it and the car is good to go for at least two hundred thousand more miles so I may just run her around as long as I can. Hope to meet you soon.

small world!

I own 2 of the T4WD's you've likely seen around Petrolia -- an '85 SR5 (dark blue) and an '87 DLX (black). They are both often parked along Lighthouse Road at the Mattole Salmon Group's headquarters and office/shop, as I work there (hence the "Fish" part of my name... although Gary is in fact my real first name, lol). the '85 is my daily driver at the moment, because the '87 has some issues that I'll be taking care of this spring, when the weather is warmer.

I also own a running '83 SR5, but it is non-opp'ed (non-operational status w/ the CA DMV) because of problems with the brakes, and oil leakage from the front main seal, cam seal, and the distributor gasket... don't know when I'll get around to dealing with those issues.

next door to the Salmon Shack, you've probably seen a silver '86 T4WD DLX that belongs to a buddy of mine... that wagon needs a new engine, which I'll be helping with this spring or summer.

I do all the maintenance and repair work on my vehicles, as it's cost-prohibitive to take 'em to an automotive shop (as you've definitely discovered with your wagon). a few years ago I had the opportunity to salvage a complete low-mileage '83 T4WD wagon that had front-end damage that couldn't be repaired... so I have tons of parts on hand.

there's one more T4WD wagon I'm aware of in the lower Mattole Valley... it's that silver '83 SR5 with expired Oregon plates that's been parked for about a week right near the Petrolia General Store... don't know who owns it, but I've only seen it around for a couple months (since the trimmigrants descended upon the Valley, lol)... and it looks like it's been involved in a recent fender-bender

hope to cross paths with ya at some point, "Mattole33"!

do you ever go to the Yellow Rose? :)
