1983 Toyota Tercel SR5 (Eugene)

Post by jaredheath »

question - so this one is a 2wd.
i emailed them because that didn't make sense to me, being an SR5.
they said the previous owner "disabled" it..?
how big of a project is it to re-enable? because i'm definitely wanting a 4wd.
but, if this can be done, i may be flying to Eugene.

I think by looking at the shifter position It looks like they put a fwd transmission in it,with the linkage the shifter is back a couple of inches further from the front

I agree with Jim. You would need a 4WD trans that matches the rear pumpkin, and a drive shaft. Totally doable. The pumpkin would have to be in or it wouldn't be driveable. The car looks great!

with the exception of the white crap on the rear passenger side, the exterior looks great. the interior isn't very good but it's better than what i'd expect for that price.

For that price I'd get it regardless!

I would grab it too
If you do get it and switch tranny
Be sure to save 2wd tranny for parts
Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.

I agree- totally doable. Biggest problem is finding a good proper ratio tranny. Too bad it's so far away from MD (I've got all the parts required to 'restore' the 4WD- including decent matching seats.)
if it aint there, there's a good chance it won't break!
83 SR5 Silver/Blue (Snowmobile/work beater)-totaled but drivable
85 SR5 Blue
88 SR5 White (the 'good' one)-not anymore-totaled
87 fwd silver wagon a/t
87 4wd dx Cream (a/t- not anymore- now m/t)

It depends on what a replacement transmission costs. You could do it yourself and save a lot of money. Lots of support on this site.
