Hey guys,
I've thought about this hard, but I do need to move on from my short but great stint with a T4. As a student, I can't keep all the cars I want unfortunately.
Before it goes on CL, I want you guys to have first dibs.
Good:
- Sr5! Tach!
- Power sunroof (doesn't leak, works perfect)!
- Power Locks...yes you read that right.
- Power steering works great
- New rotors, pads, rear wheel cylinders (i didn't bother changing the ugly looking drums, but they're good!)
- Factory-like harness made for wiring power lock alarm, fog light wiring, sub wiring.
- Rear privacy cover in tact and in great shape!
- 14x6 CSA 5-spoke wheels, hankook front and michelin rear winter tires, lots of tread!
- last 5 tanks or so have been above 24mpg city (daily commute includes going up a 300meter mountain twice!)
- 4wd works great. 4wd on the fly has never had an issue, but taking it out, you have to either hit the brakes hard so the body dips forward, or reverse about a foot.
- Radio has Aux and USB!
Recent work (all within the last 6k):
head gasket
valve seals
carb rebuild (still needs fine-tuning, something to do with the fast idle)
new exhaust sections, there are zero leaks, cat works, passed emissions
front right wheel bearing
welded up body where front right control arm attaches to, undercoated.
brand spanking new radiator, toyota tstat, new coolant, new hoses, new heater hoses
air filter/fuel filter/spark plugs/dist rotor/cap/all new vacuum lines
probably more, will add as i remember
Bad:
Rear left quarter is pretty bad, was hit sometime in a previous owner's life
Rust on front quarters, rust on rear quarters
Driver's seat bottom has lots of wear. Has never bugged me as the Sr5 seats are way more comfy than swapping better DLX ones.
Smokes blue in the morning, consumes oil.
Overall, my current mindset on this car is "add oil, keep driving". I don't have any issues with the car at all and I'm not worried at all about anything on this car except to add oil.
I've driven it to Whistler, Hope, etc, and it's been great. Tops out at over 95mph or so.
What's left of the original paint has been cut and polish and in some areas, the metallic/pearl coat still shines great!
Photos and thread is here: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=10564
I'll be upfront and say that I paid $1000 for the car.
I'm looking to recoup my purchase price at $1000. All reasonable offers will be entertained.
Otherwise, I'm just gonna swap a 4ac to it and sell it at a higher price considering the motor won't smoke or consume much oil at that point.

Re: 87 SR5 - Vancouver BC
if it's gonna only need oil, I can deal with that. I have one (FWD) and I don't know how much I will have to put in to have it registered. BTW, the pictures are not showing correctly.

Re: 87 SR5 - Vancouver BC
Every time my Tercels have been burning oil, either on start-up or during acceleration, it has always been the valve guide seals. They are a pretty easy and cheap fix. The camshaft doesn't even have to be moved.clarksober wrote:if it's gonna only need oil, I can deal with that. I have one (FWD) and I don't know how much I will have to put in to have it registered. Re: 87 SR5 - Vancouver BC
Hmm...i've changed the valve guide seals already in this car, so likely something else.
4AGE bigport not for sale without the car.
Pictures are within the thread. The link is to the "build" thread of my tercel, which will have photos of the car.
