Re: How to drop the fuel tank?

Here is what the Magnet Paint company has to say about their product. Chassis Saver is completely unaffected by road salt, gasoline, diesel fuel, oils, battery acids, hydraulic fluids, solvents, chemicals, or corrosives. http://www.magnetpaints.com/underbody.asp Too early to confirm how long this fu...

Re: How to drop the fuel tank?

I pay $19 for 1/2 pint and $40 for a quart. 1/2 pint goes a long way. I googled this and found Wal-Mart selling quarts for under $40. EBay and other sources are listed also.

Re: How to drop the fuel tank?

Thanks guys! This car is back on the road with no smell of gasoline whatsoever. Repair turned out well. Pictures attached. As you can see,  there were holes in all of these lines: supply line, return line, and vent line. I used a small wire brush to clean the area, and then cut off the ends of the s...

Re: How to drop the fuel tank?

Here is the link. http://www.magnetpaints.com/underbody.asp I will just wire brush the loose rust off of the fuel lines and paint this stuff on directly. The beauty of this product is that you don't need to overclean the parts. It will adhere to rust . It sets up rockhard and will seal all of the pi...

Re: How to drop the fuel tank?

Good news for tonight: The tank came out pretty easily, and it looks like I have enough to work with to attach rubber fuel lines. The bolts and the pins came out without much trouble. I think it was soaking in blaster for 24 hours that helped with this. The supply line is rusted, and I can see holes...

Re: How to drop the fuel tank?

Excellent advice. Thank you. I cleaned up the 14 mm bolts and have them soaking in blaster now. Hopefully I will not twist them off tomorrow, but I can tap those holes if I need to. I don't think I can use MAP heat that close to the fuel tank, and the fuel lines. The pins on the backs of the straps ...

Re: How to drop the fuel tank?

Thanks for the helpful advice. Excellent idea to use copper line. Petros was on the right track to suggest a hole in the line somewhere. I found the problem. I disconnected the supply line in front of the tank. The front section was airtight to the fuel pump. Dropped a line into a gas can and was no...

Re: How to drop the fuel tank?

I have been avoiding this nasty job, but it appears likely that I will be dropping the fuel tank this weekend (fuel line no longer supplies fuel to engine, see below.) Given that my 3 metal fuel lines coming out of the top of the tank are rusted, and I have been patching the return line with JB weld...

Re: How to drop the fuel tank?

Thanks very much Petros. That step by step will be extremely helpful. Hmmm... my original '83 paper shop manual only goes to FU-32. I do not think FU-33 ever existed in this '83 book. I checked the 85 electronic version I got from this T4 site, and indeed FU-33 and FU-34 shows the fuel tank diagram ...

Re: How to drop the fuel tank?

Just checked every page in the BO section, but does not show dropping the fuel tank. Just checked EC, Emission Control, and RA, Rear Axle, also. If you are sure it is in here, I am stumped as to where to find it?

How to drop the fuel tank?

I read on the list that it is "easy to drop the fuel tank" , but I am not sure how to do that? Do you just pull those 2 pins on the straps facing the rear bumper? I have the original shop manual, but have not been able to locate the procedures in there. (Yes, the manual where Fuel system i...

Any Rear Bumpers in NY,PA,NJ,MD on July2, 2015?

Does anybody have a rear bumper for sale? I am driving from Ithaca, NY to Baltimore on July 2 and will stop by your place to pick it up. Having trouble locating one in the salvage yards. Any leads would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Fuel Pump is chattering away

Certainly agree with your statement that this stuff is difficult to get off of the hands... which I did not expect either. Not worried at first because lacquer thinner takes off anything. Not so. I ended up using hot water and a lot of thumb and skin pressure... to roll it away and wear it away... b...

Re: Fuel Pump is chattering away

I installed a new Kyosan OEM fuel pump on 12/24. The bothersome clicking/ticking sound is gone, and the car feels solid once again. The old pump seemed to test out ok when I pulled it for inspection, but it continued to make noises... that were coming from inside of the fuel pump... that were not th...
