Re: Front end alignment

Easy there Ron. You sure like to bash stuff that happens to work... My 84 landed perfect with nothing more than a tape measure and torpedo level. Even before I verified it on a alignment machine, the 20k on the tires told the tale. And having been in the trenches with unqualified colleagues for too ...

Re: stupid shifter...

When pulling on brake springs use a side cutters. Pliers slip way too easy, and needlenose pliers will go thru your lips. Fortunately I only know the first fact personally. The hardest part is the top spring/adjuster. When going back together have the spring/adjuster mounted to the installed rear sh...

Re: Transmission Questions

Poor maintenance at some time in the car's life seems to be the biggest factor. Driving habits of course too. I have been fortunate,no grenades and my worst out of 4 only has only gear whine. No dissections yet for me. The input bearings seem to be the most vulnerable on most any manual. Ours are mo...

Can anyone here beat grandma??

None of my T4's are or have made it even halfway there and only one still has it's original engine. http://growingbolder.com/media/technolo ... 59598.html

I hope I make it long enough to try!

Re: Slotted Rotors?

Those are most likely Brembo's, which have always been great. They are the only brand rotor that I've seen come out of Italy B/A stuff is usually a high quality product. I was very pleased when I got my fuel pump spacer/heat shield at a very attractive price. Opened the box and found an OE part in a...

Re: PCV - Whats it do?

4.3 tbi chevy truck, 88-93 vintage. One pic is the plugged vacuum port on the throttle body for the pcv, the other is very wet blowby coming out the air cleaner hose all over the throttle body(the hose that allows fresh air from the air cleaner in to the crankcase). Both hoses should be unrestricted...

Re: Slotted Rotors?

I really wanted to let this rest but you had to call me names again(sir).haha Let me refresh your memory "how much is a life worth" followed immediately with "penny wise pound foolish" Now i am not sensitive, and I don't really care what you or anyone else thinks of me. I just fe...

Re: Slotted Rotors?

You implied I don't value human life. Pretty easy to make a correlation from that statement. Sure I have grown to hate "people" some because so many lose their sanity when the car requires money thrown at it. Still don't want them dead. Best I can do is to refuse service. I am not telling ...

Re: PCV - Whats it do?

A plugged or malfunctioning PCV system can damage an engine. Sludge can plug it. If you're local climate can swing over a hundred degrees like mine, no PCV can get real ugly. Had one last winter horrible condensation and underhood emmissions.. My first thought was blown intake or head gasket. But i...

Re: Slotted Rotors?

Well Ron, maybe you shouldn't accuse me of endangering peoples lives. That will get me going. I, like many others have had thousands of brake jobs on the road and no death or dismemberment. If I fix it, it leaves as safe or safer. The car's owners are probably more likely to die getting a routine me...

A couple years ago there was a guy in my town with a similar sense of humor.

He had a Camry with a large plywood wing and hood scoop.

Re: Slotted Rotors?

Ron. If you have had brakes done outside of the dealer for at least 10-15 years, It is extremely likely you got chinese rotors. Underhanded car dealers will sometimes sell you OE and put on pure profit too. If any of this scares you, you might want to move to a country that hasn't embraced them. The...

Re: Sprinter Carib?

While I'm not saying carb is better than fi. But for a cheap ass T4 owner like me I'll take a good functioning carb before some of the modern stuff out there now. I am well equipped to work on the new stuff. And because I do it so often, and see just how things are going, it only reinforces my appre...
