Re: 1980 Tercel/Corolla 1A-C with 59,000 miles
Yeah, a 1-AC engine was an option according to my repair manual for the 1st gens! The 1.5 L 1A was produced between 1978 and 1980. All variants were belt-driven 8-valve counter-flow SOHC engine with a single, twin-barrel downdraft carburettor. 1A-C Applications: AL10 Tercel I'm really digging the st...

I got to thinking, is it really the gauge when all that stuff goes through the hood?

David, if you don't have one of these, I've found them very handy!

Re: Fast idle not engaging randomly when cold
Ah ha, may or may not be related, but I think the AAP is bad. On cold starts, there's a strong gas smell, runs fairly rough, and when I had to give it a good bit of gas out of a stop sign on a hill, there was a large hesitation. All such issues go away when she warms up. Now if I could just find the...

Re: New member from Portland, OR - '86 Tercel Wagon DLX
Oh, right. I think he has the same transmission I do! There was a fill plug for the diff and a fill plug about midway on the transmission itself. Both were 19mm I think. I took both of those off first to make sure they weren't gonna strip. There's two 24mm drain plugs and one 19mm drain plug (extens...

Re: 1986 4wd and hello
Welcome! Pull the fuel level sender and check the tank for rust. If there's no rust, you might be good to go on fuel delivery. You may check the fuel filter too! I've heard of the hard lines becoming plugged and needing to be unplugged. Most of the emission systems on this car actually help smooth r...

Re: Valve stem seals
There's still Dextron II and Type F, at least at our local walmart, Type F is what I used on my manual transmission flush because it was cheap! There was no blue smoke on cold startup yesterday, and none when I was smashing the gas while stopped. We shall see! The engine still has plenty of power (w...

Jarf, did the ATF thing actually work?
I may be crazy but I think oil consumption is down, I'll know when I check the oil when I get home!

Re: terc #6
It was 150-180F (65-80C) in the hot areas of the radiator and 80F (26.7C) degrees on the "cold" areas. Mine happened to be plugged in the 3 inches below the inlet from the engine, I think that was the big killer! Small drives like the commute to work, it'd be fine. Even around town, it'd u...

Re: terc #6
A heat gun is invaluable for this stuff, I thought my radiator was flowing good too, but there was a good 3 inches that were "cold" compared to the rest of it.
