Re: Rebirth after 300K
Synth, You found a local source for new axles at a decent price, do you think we can do a group buy? I have been thinking of getting some new axles just to make sure I have a set for my engine swap in the near future. I know there are others on the list that might want to have a set of new axles. Or...

How does an '86 have an inclinometer? Appears someone is trying to install the front bumper upside down. Get a gram balance and balance all the pistons before you have them installed on the rods. You can also balance the piston rods, end for end (make all the big ends weight the same, and the small ...

Re: Just got back...1986 from Petros
I bought the car that Cayuse just bought last May, intending to do some quick repairs and use it as my daily driver as I did my engine swap in my yellow '84. And than sell it when I was done. Turns out it was more complicated than that (as usual when it comes to old cars). It was advertised on CL, b...

Re: Timing Belt job
I can cut one out in one tenth the time it takes to drive to the parts store, get one (if they have them in stock) and than drive back. I have the box already, and a pair of scissors, I am done in about 2 min and have one in hand. I will still put gasket sealer on it, just to help the seal. If you r...

If you can get a crate engine complete, it would be cheaper than rebuilding your existing engine, I have had good luck with the imported used engines, but are hard to find for the Tercel4wd. You might also see if you can get a 4ac crate engine if you can not get a 3ac. The head usually can be rebuil...

Re: Diesel swap and restoration progress
Perhaps you should check the engine over for residual radiation, just in case. Why are you using wood to make a spoiler? What design do you have in mind? I made one out of black ABS plastic, no need to finish it. I do not remember the Yugo as anything to get excited about, is there something special...

front struts are totally different. You might make them work if you want to lower the front about 4" and you want make your Tercel RWD, the front knuckle has no provisions for a drive axle, and the strut housing would block the ability to install an axle anyway. The front calipers will fit on t...

you need a gasket there, not enough surface area for form-a-gasket to work. You can cut one out of the box the t-stat came in.

Re: EGR valve funk
mine looked like that, I just left it. Putting exhaust gas into the intake reduce performance and economy, it is part of the emission control system. Exhaust gases lower peak pressures and temp in combustion, which is why it harms economy but helps with emissions.

Denso is the factory supplier I beleive. The end of the dist shaft is held in place with a bearing built into the head behind the gear, so it should not wobble much when it is installed, but that looks like a lot of play to me. I would replace the distrib when you get a chance, should be no detectab...

Re: Full Gasket Kit: What the Heck are These "Washers"
some models of emission control system (depends on year or CA or FED model) have large tubes off the manifold as part of the EGR system, they use large banjo fittings on the ends. These look like metal gaskets for those fittings. If you do not have those fittings on your car, or you do not disturb t...

what it comes down to is the cars end up in the wrecking yard for a reason. If they are wrecked badly, likely it was in running condition. But more often on cars this old the body is in fair shape, so it means it ended up in the yard because it had a costly mechanical problem. Which means either int...

Re: Dealing with extra horsepower and torque
Perfect material for this application. I had several ideas, even using two half spheres, one on each side, to make a real solid connection. But that would have be be made very accurately or you would get binding. The typical approach is to use the ball and cup on one side, and the rubber bushing on ...
