Re: Clunking sounds when shifting

I had clunking noise on my T4 mostly when I changed from first to second gear. I found that the inner steering rack bush on the passenger side was worn. I took the whole rack out a couple of weeks ago and replaced it. To get the bush out I has to borrow a slide hammer from a friend as it isn't easy ...

Re: Repairing that awful fuel sender unit

Thanks dlb, I will pull it out tonight and clean it with carburettor cleaner. The other thing I noticed is that when the tank is almost empty, the needle goes down much lower than the empty mark. It's almost like the range from empty to full has shifted.

Re: Repairing that awful fuel sender unit

Does anybody know how to make the needle on the fuel gauge line up with the full mark when the tank is full? At the moment it stays between 3/4 and full. I have the same problem with my wife's 2003 Rav4.

Re: Vacuum Advance Issue

Thanks dlb. I will leave it as it is, i.e. bypassing the temp switch. Thank you very much for all your help.

Re: Vacuum Advance Issue

I connected the dizzy to the manifold and carbie as you both suggested and the timing does change by about 8 deg when the engine is idling. I took it for a drive. It definitely has better acceleration, is smoother and feels more like it did when it was new. Thank you very much for your help. I do ha...

Re: Vacuum Advance Issue

Mark, what I meant was - if I wanted to I could install a tee in the line from the gas filter and K. From memory both ports on the gas filter already have tubes connected to them, one presumably to K.

Re: Vacuum Advance Issue

Thanks dlb & Mark.

So the upper dizzy port also goes to K on the TVSV.

I will try that tonight.

Re: Vacuum Advance Issue

Initially the car came with a dizzy with a contact breaker. But I got fed up having to adjust the points gap/dwell angle and timing all the time. That dizzy only had 1 vacuum port which was connected to the carburettor (near the idle screw). I replaced it recently with an electronic dizzy from a 4AC...

Re: Vacuum Advance Issue

Thanks for the replies. My dizzy has two hoses. It's an electronic one that I got from a 4AC engine. I checked it by sucking on the vacuum tubes and the mechanism moved inside which would indicate that the diaphragms are ok. I have a spare dizzy. Without mounting it on the engine I connected the vac...

Vacuum Advance Issue

Hi guys, I will appreciate it if you could help me with a timing/vacuum advance issue that I'm having. I was checking the timing on my 1983 Tercel 4wd today. With the vacuum advance tube to the distributor disconnected and plugged, the timing was at 7 degrees btdc. I, then, unplugged the vac tube wi...
