Oh, is the vac advance unit on the top of those distributors? I think I remember seeing that once.

Re: 1986 sr5 on bring a trailer
Wow, it sold for $10,250...in USD! I had assumed it was in CAD since the car is in Canada but nope. So in Canadian, that's over $14k. I hope the buyer is someone who has lots of disposable money and isn't putting themselves into debt for what they believe is going to be a mint car that won't require...

new vacuum advance unit, part # SMP 43898YM
I bought a replacement vacuum advance unit off of ebay recently, even though I wasn't sure if it would fit on our cars (the listing said it was only for 1982 tercels, which didn't make any sense to me but still had me unsure about forking over so much cash for it). It arrived yesterday and I install...

Re: Collapsed Rings? Bad idle..
I hope some others chime in here because I'm running out of ideas. It doesn't really sound like a timing issue but just in case, have you verified the crank and cam gears are at TDC on the compression stroke, and the distributor rotor is pointing to 10:30? Next idea is a plugged fuel filter. You can...

Re: Blown head gasket scenarios/ diagnosis
I flushed the system several times and even filled it with vinegar. I managed to get it somewhat clean but its still heavily dirty. Ive since then driven maybe 7000km with the car. Compression is 175psi on all cylinders, it doesnt use oil or have contaminants in there or use any coolant. Havent man...

Re: Remanufactured distributor bearings
Do these reman'd distributors come with a new vacuum advance unit? Because those units on their own are around $150 US on ebay. I wonder if the reman'd distributor would be a cheaper option for getting new vacuum advance units.

Re: Souping up a 3A Engine
The jets are tiny. They would fit in a regular envelope. Probably only be a few dollars to mail. But you're right, there are a few options for achieving what you're looking to do.

1986 sr5 on bring a trailer
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1986-toyota-tercel/ This one has been up for sale several times this year already which always strikes me as a little fishy. Also of note, both the transmission and rear diff appear wet with gear oil. It would be a shame to spend a mint on it and find the trans and/...

Re: Lift kit???
How does a lift with a cutting board spacer affect the longevity of driveshafts and such? I have replaced both in the front and would like to keep them for a while =) It depends on the height of the lift and the condition of the axles. Some members here have done lifts without also spacing the engi...

Re: air bubbles from tank hose at fuel filter
Did you try another filter? I noticed these filter bodies are glued together. Maybe a tiny leak at the seam. You would think it would drip when the car is off, but with a vented tank and under pump suction when running, perhaps not. Good idea. I haven't tried another filter yet but will look at tha...

Re: Lift kit???
Yes, you basically just cut up a nylon cutting board to make spacers that go between the top of the strut mount and the body of the car. You have to replace the bolts in the strut mount with longer ones. I only ever heard of people doing this on the front struts, I don't think it's possible to use t...

Re: Lift kit???
Simon84 did, way back when. I think that was in his orange "pumpkin" tercel, which he eventually retired due to rust, but believe the old cutting board lift held up the whole time with no problems.

Was the tercel with the orange and brown stripes the one that belonged to the fella who gifted you the FSM? It's beautiful.
Man, these engine swaps are such huge projects. I get anxious even reading about them. Good on you for sticking with it.
