Re: frozen/rusted inner & outer tie rods
Oxy-acetlyene is the only option in some instances. Propane heat sometimes isn't enough. Propane/oxygen should do it. Aftermarket parts sometimes come in different sizes.

Re: head gasket ?
I think you can have a head gasket fail and not get antifreeze contamination. It just depends on where it happens.

Re: Anyone know how to remove the hatch struts?
Those sockets actually thread off. I think you need a twelve mm or ten mm wrench (can't remember which size it is) and turn the bolt out of the hatch and body. The socket will spin in the strut. You have to support the hatch while you loosen those bolts off.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Have you pulled the spark plugs out to see what condition they are in? It will tell you a lot about the condition of the engine.

Re: ok to tow with no front cv
How far are you towing? One precaution is without the axles in place there is no clamping force on the wheel bearings.

Re: Mechanical to Electronic Distributor ?
I agree. Maybe there isn't any slack in the throttle cable?

Re: Mechanical to Electronic Distributor ?
I am not sure if you have the terminology wrong but you don't turn the mixture screw to adjust idle speed, but the idle stop which is close to the throttle linkage.

Re: Rookie here with Vacuum issues possibly more.
This car wasn't driven much I assume from the mileage. Fuel deposits in the carburetor may be the culprit causing the sputtering and hard starting. I rebuild a carb from a car that sat for a long time. It was amazingly filthy inside. Floor mats have been known to jam the throttle open. Make sure it ...

That car looks like it is in awesome shape! Not sure what your other repair issues are but when you get this gem running you will not regret your efforts. Good luck with it.

Re: Water cleaning of combustion chamber (unwanted)
The last shop I worked in had a fuel injection cleaner similar to that first hand held one. It is really meant to clean the injectors so that proper atomization occurs. Any other cleaning it does is just a bonus. I've heard a few stories of improper use of a motorvac and a subsequent fire on a custo...

Re: Water cleaning of combustion chamber (unwanted)
That is a really difficult thing to do. You would use a very small vacuum hose to draw water in and only in spurts. That is what I remember from school but I have never had the guts to try it myself. Hydraulic lock is the worst case scenario.

I seem to remember that those tests are not supposed to last more than a few seconds. Or else you will damage the alternator.

Re: The battle wagon
If an axle is too long, it wouldn't fit. The axle in my opinion is never fully compressed when it is installed. Before the axle nut is tightened you should be able to move the axle fore and aft. If that play isn't there then you have a problem. That's why I am surprised the alignment is out.
