Just went for a spin in my 84 tercel and I smell gas. Drove about 10 km, 50 to 70 kmh. Stopped at my destination and nosed around the gas tank, nothing, popped the hood and nothing obvious either. I too have noticed this same pinging sound when I accelerate. It's most noticable on hills. I also played with the timing until it was less noticable.
How do you de-carbon the engine? Will it get rid of the noise or just be an improvement?
