I see this thread started years ago, but the problem is likely to be occurring more on these older cars. The bushing looks same or similar to what I had to repair on my Tercel front wipers.

Re: Wiper Linkage Assembly - How To Fix This?
I wonder how this turned out for the original poster. I went through the same problem a couple years ago and I see ARCHINSTL posted a link to my documented repair procedure. I wasn't able to find a new replacement part but I improvised an effective retainer for the old bushing, which has worked OK s...

Re: Reluctant To Start Immediately
Petros, your comment about ethanol fuel blend reminds me that I switched to using mid-grade gasoline (with lower ethanol content?) in recent years as an experiment. It may have been another factor in making the car easier to start. I believe the higher grade gasoline produces better MPG sufficient t...

Re: factory gas mileage
I almost always average 30+ MPG with very conservative driving and mostly highway miles ('83 Tercel with manual transmission). When the car was newer I could consistently average 36 MPG on long trips. My MPG figures seem lower with the newer ethanol-mix fuels.

Re: My '84's Storied Past.....and Present!
A quarter million mile Terc might not even be halfway through its life yet! :D That's not a realistic expectation in the real world. Most Tercels are scrapped after 200,000+ miles, which is still good life for an econo-car. Mechanically competent people can keep them going longer but the economics ...

Re: Reluctant To Start Immediately
I used to have a long-standing problem with my Tercel being hard to start if it was unused for a few days. It would start easily if it had been driven in just the last day or two. I wondered if the carburetor bowl was somehow draining down. I resigned myself to cranking it for a few seconds, waiting...

Re: Tercel Wagon needed for film in North California
On the subject of Tercel cars in films: Why did Jesse Pinkman continue to drive an older Tercel wagon in the "Breaking Bad" series, when he was making satchel-loads of money as a methamphetamine producer and sometimes just throwing away wads of money? Because he didn't want to have a consp...

Re: My '84's Storied Past.....and Present!
This is an interesting story which I happened to see while researching a problem. I notice it is an old post.
I can't help but wonder if it was really practical to "restore" an old Tercel with a quarter-million miles on it. How many more miles could you expect to get out of it?

Re: Heater Core update and part request
My Tercel slider controls are getting stiff from age, dust and cold weather. Seeing that broken part should motivate me to try to lube those parts.
I've had my heater unit out a couple times to clean out mouse nests. Plug those cowl vent drains with screens!

Re: Highest RPM achieved?
I think I've briefly had mine up to 5K on rare occasions, years ago. I don't like to push it. It doesn't help to lug it either. I drive pretty conservative and my Tercel is doing well for being 33 years old although it only has 137K miles on it.

Re: rats nest air filter
I've had mouse or chipmunk nests in my heater fan a couple times. After the second time I realized they could get up the cowl drain behind the front wheels, so I stuffed window screen in there. If you get leaf debris down your cowl vents, you may want to remove the screens periodically to flush out ...

Re: toyota liteace/townace - engine access?
Wonder how things turned out with that van? I once had a RHD mid-engine Toyota van myself ... I had an extended visit in Australia nine years ago and saw liteace vans for sale but I ended up buying a Toyota Tarago (Aussie version of Previa). It had 385,000km when I got it, and I drove it 9,000km in ...

Re: plugging RV into shore power at home blows circuit breaker in house
I have the loan of a friend's old travel trailer (for a guest house) and a previous user replaced the old main power cord. Even though the replacement looked good I discovered the insulation inside (at fuse panel connection) was very brittle, possibly from overheating in a previous use, so I replace...

How long do your hoses last?
My Tercel is a 1983 model with about 136K miles and still has all the original coolant hoses, which seem supple. I bought the car when it was less than a year old. Occasionally I've replaced some vacuum hoses that split or developed holes. I've replaced the valve cover gasket sometimes after adjusti...
