Re: The Tersailor (REBUILDING)

I personally don't put a lot of stock in where something was made, because I've bought plenty of good China, Taiwan, etc-made parts. I think it's more a matter of you get what you pay for -- if you buy something that is cheap, it's going to be cheaply made, regardless of whether it was built here or...

Re: Front and rear seats

When you sew it, it will probably be easiest to remove the fabric and turn it inside out to repair it. I had a friend do some sewing repairs on some seats for me years ago, turned out great. Anyway, removing the seat covers is a little annoying but if you only have to do one seat that shouldn't take...

Re: Aluminum plunger in carburetor

I am going to try to figure out how to post pictures and point to to hole it goes into... To post pics, click 'full editor & preview,' then below the typing field click on the 'attachments' tab, then click the 'add files' button, pick the pics you want to upload, then hit the 'place inline' but...

Re: Aluminum plunger in carburetor

I'm not sure which plunger you are referring to. Did you use a rebuild kit, and if so, what did it call the part?

Re: Front and rear seats

$200 is fair if they're in good shape. If they're just dirty that's ok, you can use a little rug doctor to clean them up nicely. But if they're torn to shit, they're not worth anything IMO.

Re: 84 T4WD Carb update

Page 535 of the FSM (or "rear axle - 27") has a diagram and some details about the orientation of the gaskets:

Re: 84 T4WD Carb update

I used to not replace seals when doing stuff like this because I figured it didn't leak before so it should still be good, and sometimes that is the case but too many times I've found it starts leaking within a week of doing the job, so now I always do seals whenever I disturb them in cases like thi...

Re: 84 T4WD Carb update

Wow, it looks great. Everything is so shiny! Do you know what those wheels are from? What size are the tires? Did the car come with those 'motor trend' rubber mats? I've never seen those, I love the custom fits for the rear seat floor and cargo area. Or did the cargo mat just require trimming? Eithe...

Re: 84 T4WD Carb update

Oh, I thought I remembered the brake drum plate had to come off but like I said, it's been years since I've done that job so I must be misremembering it (or maybe I needed to add that step for some other job I was also doing concurrently, who knows). Chris, is there a seal in there that needs to be ...

Re: Turbo 4age tercel

I followed the dimensions from fb user JayJay Idingo (hes on there, dont know his name though). Funny you mention that because I randomly thought about this a few days ago and wonder if he is JDNightFox on here. JDNightFox used to have a profile pic that looked like JayJay Idingo's dog mask thing.

Re: 84 T4WD Carb update

The hum in the back end might be a bad bearing back there. To diagnose those, I've had my wife drive the car at the speeds the sound is most noticeable while I ride in the cargo area like you did to find your shock mount problem. Then I listen closely to each side to see if it's louder on one side. ...

Re: 84 T4WD Carb update

You beat me to it, yes idle mixture only affects idle, so unless you let the car idle for an entire tank of gas, the plugs won't be able to tell you how lean or rich it is idling. But if your idle sounds and feels good already, plus you don't do a lot of city driving, I think you're already good (in...

Re: 84 T4WD Carb update

I’ll try this. I can say that I replaced the O2 sensor too. Through trying to fix this idle issue, I tested the sensor at the diagnostic port for the sensor, and even after completely warm and driving it around couldn’t get a reading at all, per the FSM. The sensor wire was bent and missing insulat...
