Re: Bearing woes and some pics
I beleive that is the upper half, you are showing the lower half next to it. Not sure, but I think if you look at the one up in the connecting rod, it will match the one you have pictured here. take all the them out and look at them, some should be mirror images of the other, they are the upper and ...

Re: Bearing woes and some pics
yup, looks beat. The soft bearing material got hot and mashed it way out of the journal area, increasing the clearance. And it is worse at the rear of the engine, furthest from the oil pump. If you caught it early enough the journal should be okay, have you inspected the journal yet? How do they loo...

Re: 4x4 P/U clutch question
I once owned a 2wd verion of this truck, rebuilt the engine on it. Check to see if the slave is still going in and out when you depress the pedal. If not the problem is in the master/slave cyl linkage system, or in the hose, as SD pointed out. If the hydraulic linkage is working that means it could ...

go offer the guy $1000 cash for the Tercel, especially if it has a carburetor problem. Likely it is an easy fix.

you are in a good place to make such luck happen. When you swap over the trans, make sure the rear diff ratio matches (you might have to swap over the diff 3rd member too).

Re: WTB: Valve keeper
I should have some extra, just PM me your address and I will mail it first class. Might be faster to just go to a self service wrecking yard and get one off any Tercel or Corolla with the 3a or 4a engine. An auto parts store might be able to get them.

Re: Old vs New Guard: Tercel 4WD vs Corolla Alltrac
Welcome to the list! Buy the Tercel right now! Do not even consider the all-trac. There has been much written about the difference between these two vehicles on this forum. I have owned both and I like the TErcel much better, and I sold the all-trac after I rebuilt the motor. The Tercel is more econ...

Re: Has anybody thought of adding on board air?
I have a "spare" 12 volt air pump I got for our MPV with automatic load leveler, only cost about $12 from a wrecking yard. I understand these same pumps are used by Volvo and Mercedes. It pumps up the rear air shocks via a level switch on the rear axle, the more the load the more it fills ...

Re: Heater core
you can still buy new one, aftermarket for sure. But I do not know how long those will be available, likely what we get now is just old stock. I have two spares I am hanging onto. However it would not be that costly to have your old heater rebuilt (less the $400 anyway), and it might be possible to ...

[quote="toughtercel" the Blue 4WD , notice the long bar in top right and left corner , i seen that in Tercel's brochure as option.[/quote] That is a European equvelent of a roof rack, for some reason they wanted to keep the roof clear. Add some running boards and you can use them as grab b...

Re: how to remove headliner?
There are upholstery cleaners specially made to remove smoke oders, I would try that before I tried bleach. Soak it in soapy water, rub with soft brush or sponge, and vacuum out with a wet/dry shop vac. Repeat several times should clean it up. Ron B. actually removed his head liner to clean, but I d...

when I had one of my early jobs as an engineer in the industry, and I worked with engineers from GM, Ford and Chrysler, I had a discussion about this issue. I said I thought the engineering departments were incompetent at the US car makers. My supervisor who had worked at Ford (and was one of the sh...

Re: MR2 power booster
I recently came across another MR2 power booster as I listed above, so I grabbed it to offer to fellow list members. I also got a booster with the MR2 master cylinder, if you want the whole conversion. Both are used but should be in good working condition. Rebuilt boosters and master cyl are over ab...

That looks hot. did you cut a hole in the firewall for the distributor, or did you go distributor-less?
