Re: CV axles joints..how do you know when bad?
the play is normal as Tom states, if the boots are not torn the only way to tell is to drive on them. Even than some clicking and thumping when accelerating through turns just means it is worn, I drove over a year on my left one after it started a very noticeable thumping, it just got bad enough whe...

Re: Adjusting the 4WD linkage, How?
All the lever does is push a spline sleeve off or onto the rear output shaft. The noise I would guess is the tail shaft housing bearing, when engaged it would be turning with power running through it when you are moving, in FWD it would not have any loads, but would also be turning when the car is m...

Re: It hit the road today
Sounds like a good trade to me. Though if he did not have a friend that could help him with it he could have spent about $2000 or more fixing it at the local repair shop (thought at the current prices for T4wd, even that would not have been bad). Saved another one from the grave yard. What kind of s...

Re: How steep is that hill, really?
Yes, that would be a "do or die" maneuver: it only works if you do it quickly before the vehicle has a chance to roll. Not for the slow to respond, any hesitation and your will be rolling over and over on the way back down. I like to keep the shinny side up personally, so I try and avoid s...

Re: WTB: 4WD Wagon
welcome to the list! you have to search all of your local state's Craig's Lists to know what is nearby. I like using the bootleg "crazedlist.com" craig's list search engine. Easy to use and it saves time, you just check off the states or cities you want to search and it does the search for...

Re: 4wd transmission and a few questions about 4wd
Who doesn't flip someone the bird every once in a while? I usually avoid that because there are some real jerks around here, and I do not need to stir up any more trouble I do not want. Why throw fuel on a fire? All it does is lower yourself, and inflame some inconsiderate jerk who might decide to ...

Re: Rebirth after 300K
You know if you just make a few spare keys ahead of time you would not have this issue. Home Depot, Lowes, etc. all make keys for about $1.00-2.00 each. It saves a lot of hassles later.

Re: 13" off road tires? help a brothah out! haha
there were a number of cool T4wd images with big tires I wanted to post I remember seeing on this site, but I could not find them. There was also a nice one of a Tercel hatch back mounted on a 4x4 truck frame I also wanted to post, but could not find that on this site either (from about 2008). So I ...

Re: Part interchange question
I am reasonably certain there would be no difference between the 3a, 3ac and the 3au engine as far as gaskets. The last letter designation were differences in the emission control/fuel system that should not affect the engine "hard parts".

Re: 4wd transmission and a few questions about 4wd
it occurred to me that the pilot bearing (in the back of the crank where the input shaft of the trans rides) or the clutch throw out bearing can also make noises that has nothing to do with the trans, and are inexpensive to replace (though a big job, you have to drop the trans, parts are not costly)...

Re: 4wd transmission and a few questions about 4wd
welcome to the list! looks like a good buy for only $500, even if it needs a trans. but based on the description could be from a bad u-joint or CV joint, not the trans. Could also be a sloppy shifter that just needs some nylon bushings replaced. I do not care for FWD either, but I use the 4wd a lot ...

Re: The Successor to the Tercel SR5 4WD
Yes, as a matter of fact I have slept in it several times.
I have to get a good look at the inside of the SX4 with the seats folded down, maybe I will go drive one as if I am interested in buying one, and lay down in the back (and have my tape measure in my pocket).

Re: The Successor to the Tercel SR5 4WD
I find the SX4/Fiat Sedici to small although that one that Petros posted looks pretty amazing. What do you mean too small? The SX4 is larger than the Tercel4wd (except it is 1-1/4" shorter), and 1000 lbs heavier, see below. the Forester and that Skoka thing are just too big (and too expensive)....
