Re: What is my tercel worth?

try doing a tranny flush and fill. if the grinding is not fatal it might be worth as much as $1500. If someone willing pays that much you are not ripping them off, only if you intentionally hide a defect.

Re: Happy Cinco De Mayo

Personally I do not understand why this is such an issue in this country, even for Mexican-Americans. This is the event in Mexico that brought in all the glories of socialism to what once was a productive country.

Re: Vac Advance is toast on my distributor--repair?

It might be possible to repair it, but I do not think anyone has attempted it yet. You can buy just the vac advance, very costly new. In my experience most used one are just as bad. I go through the wrecking yard remove them and test them, most are bad. When I put a working used one on my car, it do...

Re: new terc @ malahat auto

Actually I can get by with just one seat, the driver's seat, if it is the same pattern as Reggi. If they would let you buy just the cover off of it, would that be very expensive? If so, get the passenger side cover, it will fit on the driver's side and is always in better shape. I need the diagonal ...

Re: Member Profiles

I have heard you have to keep adding diesel fuel additive to keep the older diesels running on the new formulation fuel, or you will damage the injector pump and the injectors. If you expect to make to a million miles you might consider the fuel additive.

Re: free: stock T4 wheels

If you can not find a home for them I might be interested, I have my eyes on two T4wd projects in the next 30 days, one already has these wheels, the other does not. The next time you plan on being on the mainland, or come down to the Toyota meet, bring them.

Re: german /european car market t4 for export

I think Germans are rather humorless in general, certainly not up to American, or even better, English humor standards.

Re: Old vs New Guard: Tercel 4WD vs Corolla Alltrac

Congrates! Excellent purchase. Looks like original interior to me, same seat pattern as on '86. Nothing wrong with carbs, though the first gen EFI is requires less maintenance and runs nicer in extreme weather, carbs have been used on cars about 5 times longer than EFI. Many mechanics have never wor...

Re: a new terc!

back when I was in high school a friend of mine used to say "I would consider it a luxury not to have to own two spare cars". Hah, things have not change much for me. when you drive a car this old you should always have a spare (or two) available if you expect to get to work everyday.

Re: Bearing woes and some pics

Apparently there was a change in the bearings. that does not show up on the any of the parts list, I thought the whole range from '83-87 used the same bearings. I wonder if this was a later imported crate engine that someone put in the car. That is not unusual, and with the head already off the head...

Re: Turbo Tercel 4WD

Sounds kind of fun. I would think you would want the power in the lower rpm range if you are looking for more torque. I have a few suggestions: with all that extra low end power you do not have full oil pressure when you are loading up the bearings. So when you get the new crank and bearings in I su...
