Re: Side window detached.

once you have the door panel off it only takes a few minutes more to remove the window. Two 10mm bolts at the bottom edge, remove the external window trim (it is just held in place with clips, use a stiff putty knife to lift it up) and you can turn the window at an angle and wiggle it up and out the...

Re: Tranny match ups

welcome to the list! The engine should swap over no problem, but unless the car is real cheap that is a troublesome way to get a replacement engine. There might be slight differences in the carb, air filter, etc. but no problem for fit, or swapping over your old one. A less troublesome way to get a ...

Re: WTB wishlist

Always happy to get the parts I have no plans on using out of the garage, help a fellow T4wd owner, and gain a few more $ for my next Tercel upgrade. Win-win.

Re: UK Wanted 84/85 (4WD) B Reg in Red with browney interior

Swindon, Most cities and planned communities in the USA also has derelict car restrictions, some quite severe (it must be moved within 24 hours or it gets towed). So in those areas projects, or future projects, have to be in garages. In some areas they are okay if they can not be seen from the stree...

Re: Meet FrankenTurd

Just like the Johnny Cash song about the guy that worked in a Cadalac factory: You can say your Tercel is an "'86 and 87".

When people ask me I tell them my Tercel is an "'83, 84, 85, 86, and '87 Tercel" I got parts from all over.

A few more parts and you can say the same!

Re: nasty knocking

Many years ago I had developed a odd sounding knock, a slapping kind of clunk, clunk, clunk that occurred on the first Tercel4wd I owned after about two years of hard driving (I think it had about 190k miles on it). Before this there was this odd chattering kind of noise at certain rpms, that came a...

Re: What to do ?

That is called clutch chatter, mine has done that for over 100,000 kms. Many others I have driven have the clutch chatter, it seems common and not affect clutch life much. Soft engine mounts make the ride more quiet, Toyota always has soft mounts compared to other cars. A new mount would be more sof...

Re: Dropping the trans...pointers?

I have pulled and reinstalled this trans perhaps nine times on my various Tercels, and never found it necessary, I did not want the extra work of pulling and reinstalling the input shaft (and risk getting dirt and grit in the trans). Only once did I have any assistance, so it is not bad to do by you...

Re: disaster strikes ron

I think even if you have to fix it yourself you will have less hassles. Insurace issues are nothing but trouble, let alone dealing with a shop that may or may not do a good job. The amount of time you spend hassling it, especially the number of times you have to take it back to get them to finish ri...

Re: UK Wanted 84/85 (4WD) B Reg in Red with browney interior

I didn't have a clue that one could do this! You mean that you write down the license plate number and ask the DMV for a number? Or is this related to the VIN? It is best to try and get into the glove box and find the registration papers, than you get a name and address (often you can find old mail...

Re: trying to do the impossible-maybe

Welcome to the list. Are you referring to the Corolla All-Trac AWD wagon, or an '87 Tercel 4wd wagon? the Tercel is a true 4x4 (not AWD) since it does not have a center diff and the whole drive train is locked together (front and rear) when in 4wd. There is no easy way to adpt the 2nd gen Tercel 4wd...
