Re: Fixing Oil leak from the Side of Front Diff

drivers side gear? the small spider gear in the center of the diff? or do you mean the big ring gear?

if the spider gear is buggered up, likely the adjoining parts it mates with are also damaged. sounds like you should replace the whole assembly.

that is why I avoid buy parts made in communist factories, if at all possible.

Re: Celica strut retrofitting

I thought the camber adjustment would just fit in the same hole. did you get the ones that fit the celcia struts? it would go under your custom washers. if you use the Tercel camber adjusters, I would think it would just go on top of the custom washers.

Re: Fixing Oil leak from the Side of Front Diff

there was a lot of play in the diff assembly? and the bearing was not bad? the lash between the ring and pinion gears is very critical, traditionally this clearnace was adjusted with shims at the base of the pinion gear, and at each side of the diff assembly. you adjust the pininon in and out, and t...

Re: New Exhaust on 86 Wagon

I think the service manual, available for free down load from this site (see the FAQ section), has a drawing of all the components of the exhaust system. It might show if it has flanges or not. Likely it is flanges with gaskets. Knowing toyota, it would show each assembly as a single part and a part...

Re: New Exhaust on 86 Wagon

if you take it to a muffler shop, they can make it work. they seldom use the flange to mount them, but rather just weld them directly on to the pipe: simple and reliable. But it not as convenient for home repairs later.

Re: The beast died in the middle of an intersection last night

Do not assume it is the carburator, except by elimination. check for leaks in your fuel lines up stream of the fuel pump, by pass the fuel filter (or replace it) to check that it is not plugged. verify fuel pump pressure, and that it pumps fuel. . Than look for vacuum leak(s), a bad one (or multiple...

Re: PARTS FOR SALE ON EBAY

hey Tom, make an offer on what you need. otherwise, if they do not sell, the parts will sit until we run out of petroleum in the distant future. Not all the prices are out of line, but many of them are very much way too high. These prices are wishful thinking, I think the seller is thinking someone ...

Re: OEM carburetor issue

the only way that would be possible is if your fuel pump, for whatever reason, is over pressuring the fuel system and on first bump, it just sparys out into the carb intake. Seems unlikely. Try this: with the car cold, careful remove the air filter, and with a powerful flash light look down the barr...

Re: New Exhaust on 86 Wagon

I have never seen a muffler shop attempt to duplicate the heat shielding on the factory exhaust pipe, I have had several systems completely replaced, and never noticed any difference. the underside of the floor also has a heat shield attached to the floor, i see no reason for it, and never noticed a...

Re: 13" off road tires? help a brothah out! haha

that is really the hard way to get a better engine and more durable transmission. I have seen a you tube video of something similar, a Tercel4wd with big tires up in the air like that. You can see enough of the frame in the video to know it looks like a truck chaises under the body.

Re: Another Seattle AL25 member

that is correct, i have used FWD front steering knuckle/hub assembly in my T4wd, they are identical. to check it, get the front wheel and axle out, and than spin the hub by hand feeling for smooth bearings, pull the hub in and out hard, should be no movement. If it is tight, and no scraping, grindin...

Re: Transmission Leak

yes, it is a slip fit, not even pressed on. As I recall, I thought it was going to be difficult to get it off, but I think I tapped with a soft hammer back and forth and I pulled it off the rest of the way by hand.

Re: Another Seattle AL25 member

I put it in a vise and drove all the components apart with a hammer and a drift tool. it was not that difficult. the press would be useful for installing it because you have to keep it all square, which is hard to do driving it in with a hammer. As I recall i was able to get a punch on the edge of t...

Re: Transmission Leak

transmission rear seal is fairly easy replacment. Do it ASAP or you risk trashing the transmission. New seals are available from most autoparts stores, it is a standard part made by several seal manufacturers, they do not cost much. Or order one from rockauto, but that takes while for it to arrive. ...
