Re: Hello from Slovakia

than likely bad vale seal, or possibly really worn valve guide (though they tend to wear evenly, so odd one would be leaking so much oil). the pressrue galley for the oil supply to the head is up front in the corner, it is possible the seal in the head gasket got compromised and leaked into the fron...

Re: '87 SR5 for sale

fixing the "rough start issue" is likely a simple fix. You do not need a new carb, but to just make a few checks and adjustments. First make sure all of the vac lines are routed properly (using the vac diagram you just follow each line-only takes about ten min), and verify none are cracked or leakin...

Re: Hello from Slovakia

check your exhaust valve guides are firmly in place. I have seen the valve guides come loose and start popping up and down with the valve stem. it can run fine, but oil leaks like crazy into cylinder. review my head gasket procedure in the repair guides section to get it back together. I show how to...

Re: Bad wheel beaings?

best way to tell is to jack it up and remove the wheel, than rotate the hub by hand feeling the bearing. If it is rough, it needs bearings. also, if there is any play in the bearings, likely it is shot. should be smooth and tight when you rotate the hub by hand.

Re: "Toyster½shell" 1985 Tercel 4WD SR5

that is just too bad. it can be fixed, but it is a lot of work, you will need a new front end clip. Strip it down to bare frame/unibody and use pry bars, a come-along, and a big stump to push and pull it back into shape. May not be worth the effort, but likely it can be fixed with out a lot of cutti...

Re: New Owner With Questions

welcome to the forum! I know of people that put half a million miles on the trans, the most important issue is that you change the gear oil (and make sure you get the correct amount in it) at the recommended intervals (30k miles) and you do not abuse it (no "speed shifting", harsh treatment, heavy t...

Re: Sketch diagram of the valve in the HIC - Hot Idle Compensator

yes, unfortunately all of your fuel system is different. The carbs from ;83-87 in north American are all almost identical, so the '85 manual would be okay if it covered your export model. there is nothing in our carbs in North America that looks like that. You will need to find one for your export m...

Re: Engine noise

that picture is the second gen tercel, everything firewall forward is the same except grill headlights, bumper and length of front struts. the corner marker lights are different but might be made to work (lower edge is different because the bumper height is different from 2wd to 4wd). A lot of inter...

Re: 4AGE in SoCal!!

it has been done a number of times, there are threads on the topic. that engine is a good option, it is all bolt in conversion, except the ex header, need a custom one. the other is to work out the wiring to go to EFI. you will need to run high pressure fuel lines as well. a lot of details need to b...

Re: Interchange fuzziness

according to wiki, the first gen was L10, sencond gen L20, and thrid gen is L30 (which started in 1986).

so it would not be possible to have an L35 made in 1982?

Re: Interchange fuzziness

Welcome to the forum! this should actually be an early front drive model of the second gen Tercel, same platform as the T4wd, JT2AL35 indicates second generation, hatch back SR5 model. If it was built in Sept '82, it would be the 1983 model year. It should have the same seats and gear cluster as the...

Re: Where does the TVSV valve located in Toyota Tercel 1987 4WD 1452CC

that would explain it: it is the gear shift lever, yours is much shorter than the normal one. unfortunately the transmission is unique to this model, no other cars have anything that will work, you have to find a used replacement from another 4wd Tercel (or a front wheel drive, but that means you no...

Re: Sketch diagram of the valve in the HIC - Hot Idle Compensator

that should be in the factory service manual. the one used for North American is available for free down load from this site. I am not sure how much is different on your model, but the HIC may be the same, so it is worth a look at it.
