Re: New Drive axles , not remanufactured

I do not think toyota ever made them, but purchased them from a supplier. the supplier would discontinue production when the volume of sales drop off, which will happen as the models of cars age and become less common, and far fewer reorders for the parts. I have worn out cv axles with out ever havi...

Re: Finnegan the Space Donkey

welcome to the forum! that is hard core! Living out of tiny Tercel4wd in Alaska, better head back to town before the winter snows! I have been wanting to drive to AK in my Tercel4wd from Washington, but my wife will insist on taking the Lexus. The vacuum leak should be an easy fix, you just need to ...

Re: What info to tell shop before dropping off terc

Doing this yourself would likely save you $500-600. even if you have to buy tools and rent a shop to do it. if you buy your own parts get either Japanese or USA made parts. Replace both axles seals, and also your engine rear main seal when you have the trans/clutch out of it. You might also consider...

Re: New Drive axles , not remanufactured

I already sent this as a PM, but I thought I would put it here for benefit of others. I get them from rockauto, but I have also bought from discuntautoparts, and partsgeek below. Rockauto has good prices right now, but I do not know any of those brands. I have had bad experience with Cardone remans,...

Re: How to tell the year of à tranny?

both '85 and '86 should have 4.1 final drive ratio, as should '87 and the few '88s out there. I do not think there is any differnence between the trans from '85-'88.

Re: AC idler pulley

I have not looked, but most standard bearings can be replaced. press out the current one and take it to an industrial bearing retailer, most towns have at least one, large cities have several suppliers. they will measure it and match it to something they have in stock. You can also shop on-line, but...

Re: 1984 SR5 292,xxx $3200-Denver

in both of those videos the dummies do not stay in the seats, the seat belt is too flimsy. Also, in the '80 corrola, the steering wheel gets pushed back into the driver. this must have been before the requirement that steering wheels and column does not do that, our steering column can not do that, ...

Re: Ignition problem

if you have spark the problem is likely somewhere else. check the timing, try using starter spray down the carb, indicates lack of fuel.

A bad vac leak makes it hard to start, might also check all the vac lines.

Re: Automatic tercel too slow

this is common with auto trans, no overdrive gear and it uses fairly low final drive. larger tires are the only thing to try. If you change out diff, the easiest thing to do is to change out the whole third member and front diff assembly, with ones from the '83-84 manual trans, (3.73:1) . make sure ...

Re: Hello From Calahoo!

Too bad, live and learn. Be more careful to inspect for rust before you buy. You just seem to be having a lot of bad luck. At this point it has to get better. Only one way to go but up! you should be able to locate a Tercel4wd with a decent body, but blow engine or trans, for $150-300, they show up ...

Re: Stuck in third?

I had a Tercel4wd stuck in third, when a shop pulled it apart he found nothing wrong either. sometimes too much wear allows the shift finger to get on the wrong side of the dogs, but there was no significant wear on any of the linkage. So who knows why it happens.

Re: 1984 SR5 292,xxx $3200-Denver

air bags are not a reliable way to improve safety, they seem to kill and injure as many as they claim to save. As an engineer that has worked in the automotive industry (and it aerospace, and a few other areas), I can not see how having an explosive device go off in your face a way to enhance safety...
