Re: COILS ONLINE ANYONE TRIED THEM???

so if the strut cartridges have been swapped out before i won't be able to do it again? i just got them!! not quite: your inserts can be used no matter what is in the car. if it is original, you can either use the cartridge or rebuild the existing strut. If someone already installed cartridges, you...

Re: ►►► BROKEN FRONT SWAY BAR! ◄◄◄

buzz, that more likely is worn rubber parts, as well as possible ball joints and/or tie rod ends. All are easy and relatively low cost to replace, replace all that look qustionable. I also added some home made rubber washers for behind the rubber doughnut bush on the sway bar end to stiffen it up, a...

Re: New member intro '86 SR5

ball joints and tie rod ends are an easy fix, stupid to trash a good running tercel just for that. best grab that trans, if it is indeed good. $250 and you should be able to get it out in under an hour. I have done it in 45 min with hand tools (as long as nothing gets stuck or rusted in place). Even...

Re: OEM carburetor issue

often the rebuilt carbs are trouble some if not done properly. I have found used good carbs will often work better than rebuilt ones. Do not assume if it was rebuilt that is was done properly, they are sensitive to lots of assembly details. If you get flooding, it is likely something wrong with the ...

Re: R & P

it is more common fro the inner tie rod ends to wear out and cause the play, but the R & P can also wear. on the rack and pinion has an adjustment that can be made to reduced any play between the rack and pinion gears. You have to pop off a swaged on cover to expose the adjustment, there was a t...

Re: Vacuum Advance Issue

unless you want to have "original" toyota parts, it would not be that difficult to adapt aftermarket seat belts with shoulder belts for the rear. find something out of a wrecking yard about the right color and fabricate a bracket to make it make it work.

Re: New member intro '86 SR5

welcome to the forum! looks like a very nice buy. usually the popping out of gear means the main shaft bearings are worn and sloppy, and it allows the gear cluster to shift forward and aft when you accelerate/decelerate, and it is enough moment to cause it to shift out of gear. It should be addresse...

Re: Tercel Part blowout! EVERYTHING must go!

that was a great deal. I was on a road trip the last week and did not get to visit the site, so I missed out. I was delivering a Tercel4wd I got from Nevada, to Massachusetts. Had a great time, visited friends and relatives along the way, did some sight seeing of historic places. I will create a tra...

Re: Intermittent Valve Noise

I have noticed the same thing sometimes. it will not harm anything to have the valves out of adjustment as long as they are not too tight. noise may have something to do with oil viscosity and temperature. I solved the problem btw, by only adjusting the valves when the engine is warm. So I only let ...

Re: "Toyster½shell" 1985 Tercel 4WD SR5

I have used used tires, and even had different brands of tires on some of the T4wd I drove, if you are keeping the car I am not sure it is worth it. when I was in college I would get tires from the wrecking yard, off the "little nickle" advertiser (which CL actually put out of business, it...

keep the 4ac as a rebuildable core, junk the old 3ac (it is not worth rebuilding).

Re: Tercel input shaft bearing replacement

I am reasonably certain the '83-86 2wd Tercel input shaft is the same as the '83-88 4wd, the whole front bellhousing/front diff assy are identical and parts can be interchange, I think even the input shaft itself can be interchanged. the only different might be gear ratio on the input shaft gear, bu...

Re: ANYONE KNOW IF THESE WILL FIT??

the 2wd rear shocks are completely different design, our wagons have the old RWD corolla rear live axle. the front struts (or inserts) would fit, but the 4wd front strut is 25 mm (about an inch) longer to raise the stock ride height for the 4wd/rough road usage.

Re: COILS ONLINE ANYONE TRIED THEM???

little off topic but I just recently purchased front strut cartridges..do you know if the 87s have interchangeable rebuildable front struts? the factory struts on all T4wd are the same and were intended to be rebuilt, but no one sells seals and kits for them (you could piece the parts together perh...
