Re: What all do I need to do my front main?
you do not need to raise the engine at all to replace the front cam or crank shaft seal. Front cam seal is easy, remove front timing belt cover, remove 14mm bolt on cam sprocket and wiggle off sprocket with timing belt. Pull out the seal and carefully replace it with a new one (I seat it in with gas...

Re: Ignition Problems-No Spark
all of the system componets need to be pretty much within spec for a spark to form. The pick-up coil triggers the ignitor, that generates the high voltage spark from the coil. Check all your contacts and your ground, also check the connector is making good contact. I have several spare distributor a...

A private sale of a rebuilt carb, that was test driven on an engine, I would say is worth about $100. Used carbs from a wrecking yard are worth about $25, a re-manufactured carb with a warranty is worth about $250. So pick what you think your efforts are worth between these two extremes.

Re: Brake Up-grades MR2 Parts Vented Rotors Corolla Spacer F
You will need vented rotors off the '92 or newer TErcel (some models have unvented rotors). These require the smallest spacer, I could not find anything that did not need any spacer, I tried them all. You could use the calipers off these cars ('92+ tercel) instead of the MR2 caliper, they are almost...

Re: Exhaust leak
They usually go bad, easy fix once you get the nuts broke loose (the worst part sometimes) Put AFT on the nuts and let is sit overnight (AFT makes the BEST penetrating oil). You can do it either from under or over, if it is really stuck you will need a 14mm deep socket, 16" of extensions and a ...

Re: weber air filter cleaning?
I think that sticky oil stuff that comes in the K and N spray can is necessary for the filter to work properly and stop all the fine dust. It costs so much it is questionable if it is really cheaper as KnN claims to run their filters over a paper filter. It seems to me all we need to do is find out ...

What would happen if some idiot put ATF fluid into the power steering filler by mistake? I like that statement. the answer: nothing! so it could have been an idiot, or a genious. do you know it was actually an idiot that used ATF, or are you just assuming it was based on the other stupid thi...

Re: Selling a 1986 SR5 Wagon: seeking advice
Welcome to the list. Best advice it to keep the car! if you want more safety put in full 4 point seat belt harness, far safer than air bags. Having an explosive device in your face is not my idea of enhancing safety, many have been killed or injured by improper airbag deployment and the industry is ...

Re: Tough to get out of 4wd? what gives.
make sure the steering is strait ahead and you rolled at least 3 or 4 feet, that will take the turning stress off the drive line. And as noted, you must have all 4 tires same size, same air pressure, and preferably same brand (not always an issue but some brands can have different rolling dia.). If ...

Re: rear tailshaft housing seal & tranny fluid flush
I use the same kind of filler nozzle, it works great, but you have to get a longer piece of clear tube for it. Saves a lot of work, I have about 3 feet of tube on mine, I can fill the rear diff from the rear wheel well. I like to hang the jug up-side down while I do other chores on the car and just ...

Re: Rally-cross tercel/autocross. Lets talk
The rear sway bar is almost the same as the RWD corolla GTS, they also have a lot of parts available for the rear axle that will fit in the TErcel4wd rear end. No front bar that I know of, but you can stiffen the front springs and shocks by running Celica GTS struts and springs from '88 or newer, th...

Re: Hard to shift into first gear
it sounds like either the clutch is not disegaging all the way, or the trans is just wearing out. First check the adjuster is working right (plastic ratchet thingy on the clutch pedal where the cable attaches) or the clutch cable is stretched too long. A worn out clutch could act this way too: test ...

Re: WTB: 4WD Wagon
I have heard they can be problems, I have fixed flooded cars without too much trouble, but salt water is another issue. I would expect a lot of work, but it seems they might be worth a ground up rebuild if you get one cheap. Or they would only be good as parts cars, and only the larger "hard pa...

Re: CV axles joints..how do you know when bad?
Now you guys pointed something out I did not notice either: there is only one seal on the "rear differential" (there is only one rear diff), it is on the input shaft, not the output shaft. And unless someone located the cat back that far not likely the "rear differential" is putt...
