Re: Banging noise when braking

Update:
I finally got around to changing the carrier bearing and there is no change in the noise. The bearing was good but the rubber surround was worn. Still in-tact, but worn. I'll be replacing u-joints before winter (hopefully), thanks to the information provided by jimcrazy.

Re: Banging noise when braking

I have factory tire size on factory wheels. These cars also have coil spring rear suspension. I too have had wheel hop issues on other cars I've owned and this is not that as far as I can tell. The frequency is definitely speed dependent and it only happens when the wheels are on the ground (I've ha...

Re: Banging noise when braking

I was going to try and live with it but after driving to work today, I'm going to try changing out the driveshaft for the one out of my parts car, even though all of the u-joints feel tight. I'll change the center support bearing while I'm at it.

Re: Banging noise when braking

I have checked all of the bushings and haven't found anything out of the ordinary. I'll probably replace all of them at some point, just for maintenance purposes but they seem okay as of now. The spring bushings seem a bit tattered but it doesn't sound like a spring rubbing on the perch. I'm probabl...

Re: Banging noise when braking

I have had someone drive while I ride in the back and it's definitely coming from there. I can feel it through the brake pedal, which is part of the reason I did the brake job. No pulling or anything like that.

Banging noise when braking

I have been getting a loud banging noise while braking for some time now. It sounds like it's coming from the rear. It was time for a brake job anyway so I went ahead and replaced pads, shoes, rotors and drums. There was no change to the noise. It seems to be less prominent in 4wd. Any thoughts? I w...

Re: Weird CV axle problem

Update: I took a Dremel to the edges of the splines and it slipped right in.

Beware of new (non-rebuilt) axles!

Re: Weird CV axle problem

I wish that it was the c-clip but it pops in no problem. It is getting caught up on the splines. There are little curly metal shavings where the spider gears are cutting into the them, like they're too wide or something.

Weird CV axle problem

I have been trying to replace my drivers side CV axle for some time. I ordered the first one from the parts store that I work at and it was no where near correct. I went to a different store where I ordered a second and third axle. Neither of these two will go in all of the way. They seem to be gett...
