Re: Big Mysterious Coolant Leak :O
Turns out the pully shaft was wobbly, pump failed and leaked. I replaced the pump, but did not take the extra step to get to the O ring. So far so good.

Re: Big Mysterious Coolant Leak :O
4 years later, I have the exact symptom. Coolant appears to be pouring out of the oil pan gasket behind the big front pulley. It's still leaking an hour after I turned the car off, after having only run it for 30 seconds. Also, on the drive where everything went bad the pump belt broke. Irowiki if y...

Usually not a fan of the "push harder" approach but it worked.

Re: Need intermediate shaft
Actually petros they look exactly like the the final pic you posted here:

Does that joint have retaining clips, or are you dimpling in place of clips?

Re: Need intermediate shaft
Petros, the assembly is indeed NLA as far as I can tell. I can't see how to get the u-joint out of the yokes. There are no snap rings. It looks like th u-joint is part of the yoke. I've pounded away, squeezed in a vice...nothing.

Re: Need intermediate shaft
Thanks Gary.
It looks like things changed in 85. My 84 doesn't have a sliding yoke. Rather, the U bracket is one piece with the shaft (pic attached). It looks like I'll have to rebuild the U joint.

Re: Need intermediate shaft
Thanks folks. I haven't dug into it yet to figure out exactly what is bad. The mechanic simply said the intermediate shaft needs to be replaced. It does seem like the U joints would be the problem though. I'll dig into it and post when I learn something.

Need intermediate shaft
My mechanic says I need to replace the intermediate shaft in the steering column of my 1984 4wd tercel. Of course, the part is not available. Anyone have one in decent shape to sell?

Re: Gold paint code for 84
Ok, problem solved. I think Toyotareference is wrong. I finally found the code on the metal plate on the firewall. It's 4E1, which is gold metallic on the autotouchup site.

Re: Gold paint code for 84
Well the problem is that toyota reference says it's Gold Metallic 4c3, while automotivetouchup has 4c3 light brown and 4e1 Gold Metallic. So do I go with the code or name at automotivetouchup...what to do what to do... I'll go with the code.

Gold paint code for 84
Has anyone had any luck matching the gold paint from 1984? I've read all the threads here. The problem I see is that the code given on the Toyota reference site as 4c3 doesn't match what 4c3 is on the purchase site. Toyota reference says that classic gold is 4c3 (http://www.toyotareference.com/4C3_t...
