I replaced the timing belt a year and a half ago. I set the timing like I always have with No. 1 plug at top dead center and it seems to run a little bit rich, I get 28-30mpg so I have not tried to reset it. Ok, I will give some more time to it, but when its revving at such high RPMs its a little nerve racking. "Captain, she's gonna blow!" Thanks for the input!

Hate to burst your bubble but my son has a 89 Toyota he was getting 30 miles per gallon installed a hydrogen unit He built and is getting 44 miles per gallon on regular gas it really works if it is setup right

I have always "had to" do all my own mechanic work...can't bring myself to pay someone $400 or $500 to do a job when cost of parts are maybe $15-20 bucks. Guess I'm just to tight! If I've got the tools or can borrow or rent them I'll do it myself, besides that, I'm a freak I actually enjoy...

Welcome to the forum! In reguard to the road noise...you might try jacking the rear of the terc pull the wheels off and rotate the hub while listening for noise either in the rear end or the rear axel bearings. It might also be brake shoes dragging.

Thanks for all comments! Pete is safely in my care and will live on. As soon as this cold snap passes I will go to work on him. He has a new water pump so that won't have to be done, new radiator too, but since he sat for a while I will make sure the crank shaft seal is not leaking. I read a thread ...

Oops I see you are in Reno, Nevada? Wow, don't know when I'll be out that way and I bet shipping would be killer. Would a 80's model carolla hood work? I know where one is but not sure what they are doing with it.
