Re: Selling my '85 Tercel, 164k miles! $1300. Portland, OR
Thanks. It really appears to be coming from the pan, as my friend also thought when we jacked it up, but we didn't inspect it too thoroughly. I can't really afford to keep working on it, and I don't want to insure both cars... Maybe I'll have a mechanic check it out just in case.

Selling my '85 Tercel, 164k miles! $1300. Portland, OR
I'm asking here before I ask on craigslist since you guys will appreciate it. I just received my grandpa’s old Bravada, and am sadly going to sell the Tercel :( There’s an oil leak that I’m 90% sure is coming from the oil pan gasket, which apparently is a p.i.t.a. to replace. It runs and drives grea...

Re: Big electrical problem, won't start :(
I got new fuses and relays, still not working. Found out my friend accidentally had the cables reversed when he tried jump starting the car earlier, which can apparently fry a lot of things :( What is certain is that the cabin fuse box isn't getting any power. The wire connecting the battery to the ...

Big electrical problem, won't start :(
So I let my friend drive my 85 Tercel to work today, and now apparently Nothing works, but the headlights, when connected to someone else's battery. He thinks it might be a corroded wire. I've been driving less than once a week lately, so it sits for a while. I have to drive back to Portland tonight...

Re: Big Mysterious Coolant Leak :O
Oh wait, the hole is actually behind the cover? Dang, just noticed that. I may need that gasket list eventually...
If I just wanted to replace the one seal for now, can that be done by only removing the top cover & water pump?

Re: Big Mysterious Coolant Leak :O
Good, thx. So it definitely can't be coming from through a crank or cam seal? And probably not a block crack or hg? It can probably leak a cup within an hour

Re: Big Mysterious Coolant Leak :O
I just need my reply deleted, the original post can stay. And yeah, figured crowdfunding was worth a try.
Anywho, wondering if it's even possible for coolant to leak from the bottom of the timing cover on these cars?

Big Mysterious Coolant Leak :O
After the car's been sitting for a while, because of broken bearings, I ran it a little just to keep the engine healthy, and it appears the coolant leak is a lot worse. Seems to be coming from directly under the timing belt cover, dripping off the top of the oil pan, pooling on the splash guard near...

Re: Replaced steering rack, but now...
Replaced the axles, now a bearing is bad, of course. Do u know if each bearing just needs 1 retainer/seal, or do I need the 3-piece kit?

Re: Replaced steering rack, but now...
Turns out it was mostly a cv problem. It seems a lot of the grease in each boot has vanished or clumped(?), even though no boots are torn. The temporary solution: needle-injecting bearing grease into each boot. I'm worried I've done permanent damage, but I won't know more til I fill each boot all th...

Re: Replaced steering rack, but now...
It sounds somewhat like a creaking wooden ship, or like the wheels or axles are meeting resistance or stumbling when trying to rotate. It doesn't *seem to affect motion, but maybe it is in the slightest. It could also be a weird rattle. The issue before was loose inner tie rod ends, and this is pret...

Replaced steering rack, but now...
So I had a mobile mechanic install a new rack assembly for $100, but now the sound it was making on tight turns (grumbly inner tie rods), it's making on slow acceleration straight forward, & on fast, moderate turns. So aggravating Any ideas?
