Re: Stalling

Yeah it was the little vacuum line on the upper throat of the driver side of the carb!

Re: head gasket

I covered this before, the 80-82 headgasket actually has the holes that Petros adds back in!

Stalling

Ok, so the dude I sold party to said she suddenly started stalling when you give her gas. Does it if the AC is on or off Does it if it's cold, or warmed up Runs fine if you let the car start moving and then give it gas. (automatic) Runs fine at speed. Starts stuttering when you get back down to idle...

Re: Carb. choke breaker question

It's possible it was working, it allows very little vacuum to pass through.

Re: 2001 Camry 5SFE random overheating

Interesting, I'm not sure if this overflow bottle was ever replaced the cap on the bottle is fine but there is a vent so unless it's supposed to have some sort of vent not let air get back into it

I'll look into this

Re: 2001 Camry 5SFE random overheating

I forgot to mention that I've already tried 3 caps including an OEM cap and none of them helped :(

Re: 2001 Camry 5SFE random overheating

The main problem is the radiator is unable to suck coolant back in from the overflow, eventually it runs low. I think it's because of the exhaust bubbles not letting it form the correct vacuum? Turning on the heater helps, for a time, then it starts overheating again. There's no thermostat in right ...

Re: 2001 Camry 5SFE random overheating

It is funny, we can drive around town for an hour and it is fine, but the moment we hop on the highway and go above 50 mph it overheats!

Re: The Air Conditioning thread...

When I converted mine to 134, it was being all funky so I ended up replacing the evaporator, expansion valve, and drier. Then replaced the compressor and it has worked great since!

Re: 2001 Camry 5SFE random overheating

Ah, well, the engine also burns quite a bit of oil too, despite the nice compression, so it probably needs a rebuild. There's also a lot more involved in getting the head off of this beast compared to a tercel, where if you take the engine out, everything just comes out in one go. Timewise, I don't ...

Re: 2001 Camry 5SFE random overheating

Kind of thinking about just getting another engine at this point.

For now though she's fine around town it's only on the highway she over heats.

Re: 2001 Camry 5SFE random overheating

Tried the best bars leaks head gasket sealer, at $48 for the bottle and it did not work. The 100% guarantee did work however and I got a refund!

The head bolts are torque to yield. Could I remove one, torque a new one, and repeat in sequence?
