Re: Air Conditioning Coil Resistance

The low pressure switch usually goes open circuit when below pressure limit.

Re: Future of small 4wd vehicles?

I would expect this trend is determined more by accountants and lawyers than anything else. Manual anything is getting to be too much work for mass consumption and sales overrules any other factor. These changes are market driven, so that lays blame on the motoring public as well. I'm sure that most...

Re: Tire question

Look up the tire specs and see if your rim width is OK.

I've got 195/70r14's on MR2 triangles for both of mine. Rim/wheel well fit is good.

Some T4's came with 14's? I though my only set of stock alloys with the square caps are 13's.

Re: Air Conditioning Coil Resistance

If checking for power/ground at the clutch, jumper in a headlight bulb for a "load testing" test light. It only takes one strand of wire to satisfy a regular test light or meter. There should be a low pressure switch that controls the relay Petros mentioned. It can be jumpered for a quick test, but ...

Re: Future of small 4wd vehicles?

They ran their course a while ago, at least in the states. Hardly anything mid size or smaller has 4wd anymore. It's mostly AWD coupled with stability systems with expensive electronic gear boxes, exotic fluids, and multiple warning lights. A friends 05 CRV is pathetic during low traction. Hard to t...

Re: Kerosene heaters and Toyota

The soot shouldn't be too bad. Most of it is from start up and shut down. I mostly use mine in the camper. My camper was off grid for several year's with a broke furnace, so kero was ideal. Now that theres power to it I still use it, but having a fan to circulate makes a huge difference. Keeps the w...

Kerosene heaters and Toyota

Recently came across this website as I'm kind of a kero fanatic. I've always known Toyotomi as a maker of high quality heaters(Toyoset, Toyostove, Kero-Sun). Turns out they have been the stamped sheet metal supplier for Toyota since at least 1960. http://www.toyotomi.jp/en-index/company-information/...

Re: Genesis of the Tercel 4wd found!

Junk, junk, junk! These were still around when I started wrenching and I worked on quite a few. Only worked on one T4 ever back then. Fortunately, other than "wagon" and "4wd" they share nothing in common. In typical Jeep fashion they would rust out even with all the oil leaking everywhere. Look at ...

Re: Magnetic Tool for Gravel Driveways!

I got mine off the Matco truck, so I don't want to remember how much I spent..

Don't forget about magnet pans to keep stuff off the ground in the first place.

Re: Magnetic Tool for Gravel Driveways!

Need a car mounted one around here. Lots of roofing going on after we had enough hail to call out snow plows recently. There's no better nail for car tires than roofing ones. Would work great for grabbing sockets and bolts that love to roll to the center of the car as it's quite a bit longer than my...

Re: Bad wheel beaings?

Feeling the coil spring while rotating the tire works very well. The spring amplifies the roughness. What xirdneh said is mostly true. But I have had enough that were completely opposite of what the test drive indicated that if I can't feel it in the spring, I use a mechanics stethoscope on the knuc...

Re: Automatic tercel too slow

Yep, conversion. If I remember right, the auto had it's own unique ratio. 195/70r14 tires shave off about 200 rpm's.

Re: are bearing cap bolt hole sleeves necessary?

Another threat to blind holes is puddled oil after bolt removal. The bolt cannot compress it so threads get pushed out.

Re: are bearing cap bolt hole sleeves necessary?

I would never eliminate line up pins/sleeves. A blind hole puller is needed to pull tight ones. I would also suggest a Timesert over a helicoil. Way stronger and won't come out if you have to pull the bolt again. Hopefully an insert can be installed without drilling out the sleeve area. If you end u...

Re: Knocking Caused by Piston Experiences

Yep, I've noticed that almost always #3 is the troublemaker. Someday I will look inside T4 #1's engine. It made it over 400k, tired but still ran when "put out to pasture". And it fully defied Petros as it had over heated numerous times and survived, including an entire summer hot period due to rott...
