Re: 3 4wd Subaru Justy's
Didn't know that. Of course I haven't had a Justy in my bay for decades. Still though, I bet it could be done. If a SHO powertrain can be stuffed in the back of a Festiva anything is possible. It could be the WRusty..

Re: 3 4wd Subaru Justy's
Seems any oddball 4wd cars have a tendency to multiply. Three is enough only when four is too many.

Re: The IceHawk!
Well, I just added a softwater rating. Without a passenger seat a 10 foot kayak(9ft 8in) fits inside with an inch to spare. It's a cheap sit in yak so I would be afraid of crushing it with how hard I would strap it down to the roof. Less wind resistance this way also. Surprisingly the fish smell fro...

Re: M/T trans fill/inspection plug replacement
Thanks Peter, That makes sense. What size are these plugs, 23mm?? It seems I usually end up with a 15/16", but I will keep an eye out for a flea-market, six sided socket I can grind on a little. Concerning the magnet, that is a good point to keep in mind. I've not changed the lower plugs as th...

Re: Switching from convential oil to synthetic
Yes MB, I use full synthetic in everything I own that uses oil. For my T4's it's the top shelf synthetic. Well, except the Expedition, that gets a blend. Those early 5.4's were extremely tough to kill even with 2 pretty long timing chains and have seen numerous ones going 400-500k on nothing better ...

Re: Switching from convential oil to synthetic
As far as purchase price, In 25 years ot T4'ing I have more in oil than cars. Haven't eaten an engine or trans yet, and I drive em hard. Frequently see sub zero temps(-40 two winters ago)to further legitimize synthetics. Engines look like new inside, even the worn out one with 400k is real clean. Be...

Not sure if 87 is different but I put an 85 column in an 84 and it was plug and play even with the slightly different u-joint end.

Re: My 84 SR5
Hard to beat a T4 in the winter. Especially when a $400 beater can dominate snowy roads without any.sort of stability systems. You are probably on top of this, but do run snows? Took me a while before I did as these do extremely well even on all seasons. Definitely a game changer. Never had to deal ...

Re: Two recently rescued Tercel4wd cars.
Great story. The rust on the two-tone one is incredible. Working on this kind of stuff is a great way to spend time right now. You aint seen nuthin! The Icehawk already had some fishing holes before the project started. This got treated with a sheet of 304 stainless that I might cut out for reuse. ...

Re: Most famous Tercel 4wd driver?
I did get a very tiny touch of fame out on the frozen lakes with the Icehawk this winter. When I wasn't scouting quiet areas fellow ice anglers had to check it out and almost every snowmobile passing by did a double take with some stopping for a pic. Hopefully that's the closest to paparazzi I ever ...

Re: Most famous Tercel 4wd driver?
Good question, and you probably covered it. The awesomeness of these cars stealthily flies under most people's radar, for sure anyone famous by today's standards. Anyone else "famous" that owned a T4 probably cured a disease or invented something useful. A quick search only reveals this po...

Re: approximate one year update on rebuild
Diarmait, I don't think the 4A is much different than the 3a, but if I can manage a re-power with say . . . a Volkswagen AAZ (1.9L) TD, I would like to see how the low end did. It may be pie-in-the-sky, but I'm trying to find a way. Chris I thought member cathoderaytube started a project like this....

Re: approximate one year update on rebuild
putting that many miles on it, you should consider getting a spare engine, take your time to rebuild it, and have it ready to swap out should the need arise. that way you can get your car back on the road in a weekend. you will be rebuilding your engine about every 4 years or so anyway, having one ...
