:D :D :D
Yeah, some stinky, snow-shoeing hippy in Colorado bought it and drove it back home. The car has returned to it's Colorado roots. :D

All done. :D Took an hour and a half total time, including talking to the neighbor a bit as well as a test drive on a nice snowy parking lot. :D Used a bike inner tube over the old boot (which wasn't all that bad). I'll probably order a new boot, if available, and pop that on when it arrives. And no...

Folks, thanks. You guys rock. 8) And my search skills are weak. :( Typrus--I actually like the smell of gear oil. :D Wish I had seen that thread. I'm actually selling the Tercel, wanted to take care of this problem before anyone purchased it. Spoke to the guy at the shop earlier this morning--he was...

Tranny freezes up on cold nights

Okay, imagine my surprise one morning when I went out to drive the kids to school and . . . the shifter wouldn't move at all. (Manual tranny.) Rock solid. Couldn't budge it at all. I'm pretty strong, and I was afraid of bending the stick at one point. Every cold night (25 or below) this would happen...

May have to sell the '87 Turtle

My 1985 6-speed '87 Tercel might have to go on the block. :( (It's between this and the Land Cruiser, so I'm afraid the Tercel loses out.) Anyway, it's got 116k on the odometer, no rust bubbles anywhere. It starts every day, day in day out, and runs like a champ when warmed up. 4wd works great, AC b...

My old 83 2wd Tercel got 40 mpg a couple times--highest was driving around a national park all week at 35 mph.

My current 4wd 87 doesn't get much more than 22-24--it's got emissions/carb issues right now that I just haven't gotten around to fixing. Sigh.

My gauge reads full, then drops quickly to just under half, then stays there until the tank is actually just under half full, then goes down accurately. Last Toyota I had a gauge problem with, it turned out to be the contacts on the wire leading to the sending unit--I cleaned them up (lift carpet in...

Hell, yeah, I'm on the East coast and I can say, the turtle does great in the snow! My two other vehicles are a Forester and an old Land Cruiser, and I can say the Tercel did amazingly well (for it's size). The snow was pretty light and loose, though, so even though I was nosing through some 24"...

Does it calm down once it warms up? If so, you are experiencing high-idle/warm-up idle. I normally idle around 850RPM, but when its cold it jumps up to 1250, then climbs to a shocking 2900 by the time its warm. It will keep idling here, until I tap the pedal. Then it calms down. Usually it comes do...

First thing I'd do is take the air cleaner off...a job with this car...then with the engine cold...check the choke and how it works..use carb cleaner and some oil to make sure the choke is free...warm it up to be sure the choke sets in a closed position and then backs off after it starts...opens up...
