Re: Transmission problems

After thinking about this problem you have
i'm thinking one or two of the three detents for the synchos has fallen out
i had a car recently that did almost exactly what yours is doing and it was a missing detent
its an easy fix after tranny is taken apart.
i have some spare detents

Re: Transmission problems

one way of getting it out of 4wd is to put in reverse and push out of 4wd while moving car backwards.
i would say the last option is to take it to a tranny shop
even if you remove and reinstall tranny yourself
they will charge 1200 or more to fix it

I would check the two graphite plungers inside the distributor cap first. Make sure they are not sticking.

Re: What is the recommended diameter of the Idle Fuel Discharge Port ?

So are we both talking about the same holes? If so I am assuming you want to change the diameter of the hole making it smaller. I ordered a set of small drill bits from amazon that cover the main jet range. I solder the hole to plug it then redrill. Bits are delicate so I use a small hand drill (I t...

Re: What is the recommended diameter of the Idle Fuel Discharge Port ?

I have worked on quite a few carbs on the 83-88 4wd tercel wagons. That carb number does not ring a bell in my mind. I cannot remember the most common number but I think it ends with 40. I am curious about what your looking for. The only holes I have ever been concerned about are what I call the pri...

Re: Trans fluid fill through shifter?

Re: Frustrating Oil Leak!

I also had the seal under the aluminum retainer that holds the rear seal go bad. For some reason it was disintegrating. It was a fairly new one too. I replaced it with a Toyota gasket that was very substantial as compared to the grey gasket that came with the rear seal kit.

Re: Troubles after carburetor rebuild

The one I had problem with needed to have the contact point with the spring adjusted cause it would pop out of position. I bent it so it fit better. Been a while so I do not recall details.

Re: Troubles after carburetor rebuild

Did you take the black plastic choke cover off, the coil spring in there can pop out of place. Only seen that once. I replace the rivets with screws. When drilling out the rivets it goes better if you punch the pin out of the rivet. Use a rivet stem to knock it out.

Re: Troubles after carburetor rebuild

the original needle seats has a small very fine mesh screen on inlet side
kit does not come with one
they sometimes break when removing them or when trying to install on new needle seat
they are delicate
did yours have one?
