Re: Tercel input shaft bearing replacement

the 4 different bearings that have been used on inner input shaft from 83-88 are interchangeable
as far as i can tell the difference in thickness does not matter. the trannys i have taken apart that have the thicker bearing did not show any signs of rubbing against main idler gear.

Re: Tercel input shaft bearing replacement

Look up "Transmission Notes" and check bearing number there, its in "Repair Guides"
Check tranny oil level, topping off might stop the noise.
Yes it sounds to me like input bearing.

Re: Front Drivers Side Window Regulator needed!!!

Weld some globs of metal where the teeth were then file to shape. I have done that a few times. Also once drew up sketch of toothed plate and had laser cut it out. Good plasma cutter should work too.

Re: OEM carburetor issue

I have messed with quite a few carbs on these cars. I have rebuilt them with kits and taken them apart cleaned them out and put back together without kits. Success rate either way is about the same, lucky if 1 out of 3 works right. I have quite a few carbs in a box that are tagged with descriptions ...

Re: 3rd / 4th gear woes

If pulling tranny and diff together as unit it is still much easier with input out. And reinstall goes easier too

Re: 3rd / 4th gear woes

The input will come out. Not much to grab onto. Large channel lock or vise grip works , I like vice grip. Tranny and engine need to be angled down as far a possible. Oil pan resting on steering rack.
I assume you are pulling tranny only (leave diff aka transaxle in there.)

Re: 3rd / 4th gear woes

88 trannys have alum shift forks held to shift shaft with small screw. when screw gets loose it causes hard shifting till it falls out then no 3 and 4 gears. have seen this twice since shifter is hard to pull out that means cup on end is probably good tranny will have to be pulled to find out whats ...

Re: Bulging Rad Hose, Blown Head Gasket?

I have had some bad luck with headgaskets
May have been because I did not chase the threads in the block. Throws torque off if you do not do it. Makes a big difference on feel of torqueing. All bolts tightened on three passes and each feel the same all the way through.

Re: Identify the part...

what about a wrecking yard? i have found them on various tercels that had the 3A engines. even the sideways engines have them though they are located in a different spot. takes a 19mm wrench to get them off and sometimes they are very tight.

Re: Failing Emissions caused by EGR blockage

cleaning those things is a PITA
the last one i did i drilled 3/16 dia holes in hard to get at spots and after cleaning tapped the holes and plugged them with 1/4-20 screws that i cut down to about 1/8 inch of threads.
