I have had some bad luck with headgaskets
May have been because I did not chase the threads in the block. Throws torque off if you do not do it. Makes a big difference on feel of torqueing. All bolts tightened on three passes and each feel the same all the way through.

what about a wrecking yard? i have found them on various tercels that had the 3A engines. even the sideways engines have them though they are located in a different spot. takes a 19mm wrench to get them off and sometimes they are very tight.

cleaning those things is a PITA
the last one i did i drilled 3/16 dia holes in hard to get at spots and after cleaning tapped the holes and plugged them with 1/4-20 screws that i cut down to about 1/8 inch of threads.

i have no idea what i can tell you is that i have had two tercels that registered over 150 deg i did no work on either heater systems the funny thing is that they were both 1987's and both were dark blue cars the one i am driving now is the one i looked at for you in silverdale when i sold the first...

shoved a thermometer in the top vent and cranked up the heat. 155 degrees
thats the highest i have registered on quite a few tercels tested
the lowest was 90 deg

If you remove dist cap and note where rotor is pointing you can reinstall dist so rotor points to same spot.
Just do not rotate crank while dist is out.

when resistor goes bad you usually lose one or two speeds
i believe high speed will still work with a totally bad resistor

did you run your finger around the aluminun hole the seal fits into to feel for a gouge created by screwdriver used to pry it out? if there is a gouge smooth it out and use non-hardening gasket compound on alum hole before installing seal if you are popping the axle in by pushing on wheel hub assy t...
