One thing you might have forgotten is the ridge at the top of the cylinder...if you put in new rings...the top one can break if the ridge is high enough. the first two engines i redid did not have a ridge. (both had over 200K) seems the cylinders are very hard. the pistons do wear out and crack. (c...

Question: Where the EGRV mates to manifold is completely blocked. How far would I need to go clean this out while it is apart? Should I just buy a new EGRV or how long should they last? Thanks -- Gus tercels seem to run fine with the egr blocked i've cleaned them (its a hassle) and the cars ran the...

Looks like it's gonna be a ring job for the ol' 3AC if I decide replacing the engine with a used one is the cheapest way to go. it can be good if you know the engines history. re-ringing the cheap way as follows i tried an experiment recently where i did all the work myself but kept things to a min...

Well, for a week now, I've had oil blowing up into the air filter. I replaced the PCV valve, even though I had just installed one back in July. Put in a different HIC valve, just in case that might have been causing some issue. Still no change. Consulted with two mechanics today, and one said that ...

Somebody educate me about the HIC valve, which comes up into the air cleaner housing. After I got home tonight, I noticed oil leaking on the carport from the right front corner of my engine bay, raised the hood, and there's oil coming out of the air intake on the filter housing atop the carb. I pul...

The 4 bolts "holding the manifolds together" (?) came out OK, but the shield will not slide out. Well, I reasoned that this is because the manifolds are still tight on the head. Now, all of the nuts/bolts are accessible save the two innermost ones on the middle bottom. They are visible, b...

Sooo, I basically did the same thing... But my car runs, but it won´t idle, and it has a BAD miss when driving. I gave the cap a good blast of wd40, and wiped it off after a while. It didn´t make a difference at all :( So, I go and check anything I can think of. I set the points I check for v...

How many MPG are these basic 3ac driven 4x4 wagons supposed to get? I've read posts stating anywhere from twenty-one to forty-two MPG. My experience with five of them has been around 28-30 MPG in city/suburb and around 31-34 MPG highway. One of them ran 24-26 city/suburb and 27-29 highway for a whil...

xirdneh,I bought, rebuilt and installed a carb about a year ago. Trouble is,it dies half the time wile idleing at a red-light.If I tap the gas-pedal it stops it from dieing...so I figure its an idle(jet?) or vacume leak. It did this with the old carb too...so mabey I transferd a bad part when I rebu...
