Compatible body parts for 87 wagon

Does anyone know which years/models of Tercels would have compatible front bumpers, front quarter panels, hood, headlight surrounds and front signal lights for an 87 4x4 wagon?

Re: Turn signal trouble

Did you do any work on the car's stereo? If you used the incorrect ground wire (which is easy to do because it's not the colour you'd expect) it can mess with the lights...I think it may be the running lights though, not signal lights. Just a thought.

O2 sensor question

I get extremely poor gas mileage out of my 4x4 Terc, like maybe 150 miles/250km per tank. It is an automatic though. I tried disconnecting the O2 sensor to see if that made any difference. There was none. Same gas mileage, same performance, same idle characteristics. Is it safe to say that my O2 sen...

I had this problem on my first tercel wagon...kept wondering where all my fuel was going in the Summer...evaporation out of the filler neck! The filler neck is ribbed and had a bunch of rust holes and cracks in the inner rib spaces. I did my best to prep/clean the areas around the holes with a small...

Well, what I thought was pinging was actually valve clatter. Got worse when warm as the valve clearances increased with the heat I suppose. I didn't think the valve noise would be random/intermittent so I assumed it was ping. I adjusted the valve clearances this weekend. I set them a little less tha...

You are probably turning the warm idle adjustment not the mixture screw. The thinner screw to the left (by the accelerator cable) is the cold idle adjustment, the larger screw to the right of it is the warm idle adjustment. There is a fuel mixture adjustment screw below the warm idle adjustment but ...

engine pinging when warm

I recently disconnected the AAP pump and plugged the vac lines which greatly improved the idle when cold. It now runs extremely well when cold, but when it gets up in the normal temp. range, it pings like crazy and there's a noticeable loss of power. I've replaced the plugs, tweaked the timing but n...

AAP diaphragm?

With the help of some excellent info on this site, I've found the root of my carb /gas problems to be the AAP (aux. accelerator pump) diaphragm which is leaking gas into the vacuum system. I'm having a hard time locating a replacement. A Toyota dealer is quoting me $122 to bring one up from CA...I s...

Carb/Gas issues

My '87 3AC 4x4 always reeks of gas (inside) after being parked for a few hours. It's not the fuel filler tube...checked that and does not leak when filled right up. I had that problem on a previous Tercel and there is no gas smell when I drive. I've replaced the fuel pump and that had no effect. The...

Great info guys...this forum rocks! Now if I can crack those two exhaust nuts at the manifold, I'm in business. They're taking a bath in WD-40 overnight.

Head Removal Question ???

So, I need to replace the head gasket on my '87 4WD Tercel with a 3-AC and I'm almost at the point where I can lift off the head. The only thing that's puzzling me is a small, metal coolant pipe that goes between the water pump housing and what I believe is called the water outlet assembly (upper ra...

I have an '85 4x4 wagon (3A engine) and an '89 tercel hatchback (3E). I'm junking the the hatchback and removing any usable parts for use on the wagon. Wondering what the parts campatability between the two is...specifically the starter, alternator, distributor, cat. conv., CV's, brakes/rotors and a...

Thanks for that speedy reply CLBOLT.

My manual says to remove the distributor completely when removing the head. It doesn't appear to be necessary, is it?

The less I do that may disturb the timing, the better.

I have an '85 4WD, 3A that suddenly lost power going up a hill. Changed the plugs, wires, cap, rotor and all that...cylinder is definitely getting spark so I performed a compression test...#1-200, #2-200, #3-200, #4-25! I added oil through the spark plug hole and the compression did not improve so I...
