Re: WTB: Connecting Rods.

Got a full set of pistons and rods I removed from the engine that came out of my '85 SR5 years ago. Can't vouch for the condition of the pistons (engine had been overheated by the PO) but the rods are good- no spun bearings or anything. Only problem is that as I recall, Toyota used different rods an...

Re: 14 inch tire size

If you want to keep the same overall height as the stock 175/70 13's, go with a 185/60 14. Personally, I prefer a taller tire (rides better IMO.) On my "good" '87 t4, I'm running new 185/70 14 michelins. My '85 t4 is running (freebie) 195/65 michelins, and my '87 fwd a/t is shod with 195/70 14 off-b...

Re: Where does the TVSV valve located in Toyota Tercel 1987 4WD 1452CC

I see you have a RHD car- master cyl in the pic kinda threw me for awhile. Anyway, TVSV has NO electrical connections- just 5 vacuum ports (at least our US spec cars do.) As Petros said, it's mounted in the housing bolted to the cly head that the upper radiator hose connects to. Pretty sure what you...

Re: Where does the TVSV valve located in Toyota Tercel 1987 4WD 1452CC

Toyota pn is 90925-02076- they're on the I-net for $120- $140. A few years back, I came up with an alternative- a "hand choke" if you will. I'd post the link, but can't- too stupid. Just do a search on "gc switch" and it'll come up.

Good Luck, and welcome aboard!

Re: Stock height with 14" rims

I'm running 195/70's on 14" Miata daisys on my '87 FWD. Slight inner fenderwell tire rub when pulling into driveway with steering at full lock. I'm with you- I hate those puny 13" wheels!

Re: Ignition problem

Had similar symptoms years ago with my '83 SR5- turned out to be the ignition coil (inside the distributor.) Replaced it with a known good one, and it's been fine ever since. Good Luck!

Re: 2001 Camry 5SFE random overheating

Had a similar problem with my brother's '96 Camry a while back- car wouldn't suck the coolant back out of the overflow tank when the engine cooled. Tried pressure- testing the cooling system, replaced radiator cap- no change. Was ready to pull the head when he realized he never had the problem 'till...

Re: Wondering about different axle ratios on Tercels

I've had numerous T-4's with both final drive ratios- far as I'm concerned, the 3.73 is by far the best setup. Car's not going to be a dragster with either ratio, and I prefer the taller gears due to the lower RPM's @ highway speeds. Only had one A/T 4WD and the thing SCREAMED on the highway. I conv...
