Re: Water crossings?

Thanks for the replies, sounds like I should change all the fluids after this trip as I didn't after the first.
And I will play it safer this time.

Water crossings?

Any tips on water crossings? How much can the car handle? How to prevent damage or getting stranded? What to do once back home? I went through some water a few months ago and everything still works fine. The alternator did start failing recently. Not sure if that is related or not? I did have a bow ...

Hi, So I screwed up another project. I was/am have charging system gremlins. I pulled the alternator(it's an 85 alternator in a 83 tercel) And I ether broke one of the three spade conectors of the wire leads, or it was already broke and that my have been part of the problem. So I put a new spade on ...

Free 83' rear axle in Tacoma WA need gone asap

I have a '83 rear axle I need gone asap. I swapped it out for a '85 because the car has an '85 trans and the gear ratios didn't match. Also there was noise coming from the rear passenger side(?) so it probably needs new bearings. Its free to anyone who wants to pick it up otherwise its going to the ...

Re: Tahuya State Forest 18th Dec 2010

@ Takza, the GPS is a garmin Nuvi 265 wt. It worked fine, most of the roads where on it, but some were not and it doesn't have any features like topo etc. Ya it was totally my fault for getting myself in a sticky spot but I was prepared to wait it out if necessary. That said next time I will probabl...

Re: Tahuya State Forest 18th Dec 2010

not hardcore just stubborn. I live in a medium sized city and was not able to do any camping this year due to work so I decided I had to get away before the end of the year, no matter the conditions.

Re: Overheating? What Temp should it be running at?

Update- I ran a temporary mechanical gauge. It ranged from 185f up to 208-210f 185f equaled half on stock temp gauge And 208-210f was at about 3/4 on gauge. It was 185f while driving(I do have a very short commute. In went up 208-210f while letting it sit at about 2000rpm. That's the rpm that it run...

Re: favorite tire size for stock rims?

Thanks to all for the input. I got some 14" steelies off craigslist. They came with tires about as bad as the ones I had so I put them on. I have a few mechanical issues to short out before I spend the money for new tires. I thing the seller said they where off a '92 honda, not sure but the bol...

Re: Places to go off roading near Tacoma Washington?

Thanks for the reply(s). @ ohcanada_00, I look in to your sugestions. @ Petros, the National forests would fit the bill for fun driving and wilderness camping. But I'm Leary of parking on the side of the road and camping away from the Tercel. On my one experience(on my motorcycle) on a National fore...

Re: Overheating? What Temp should it be running at?

Side note question- Which on of the two temp senders/switchs is the temp gauge and which is the overheat light. This is for a '83 3a. Standing at bumper looking at the engine, one is more on the passenger side next to thermostat and the other is closer to the drivers side. And any tips on how/where ...
