3A-C for sale in the Boulder/Denver area?

Hi all: I'm looking to sell my 1984 4WD complete due to an engine that is sure to blow at any moment. Just for fun, does anyone have a suitable motor for sale in the Denver/Boulder NoCO area? I just had an opportunity pop up to store the car for a bit and might be interested in doing some wrenchin' ...

1984 Toyota Tercel SR5 4WD $400

Runs but knocks more than a Jehovah's Witness. I can't work on cars anymore due to impending move/divorce. Everything else works fine. Recently replaced front axle, newish rear brake shoes, new used starter, etc. Interior in very good condition; exterior has plenty of rust, mismatched doors, etc. Ni...

Re: Cold Weather Blues

i got a t2wd wagon from a former girlfriend (long story- not going into it now) a few years back- same story- no power, loud knocking noise (i SWORE it was a rod knock.) turned out to be a loose crankshaft pulley.. put a new/used pulley and key in and gooped everything up with loctite (the crank wa...

Re: Cold Weather Blues

Update #2: For the record, I tried this: "Try carefully pulling one plug wire at a time while the engine is running. If the knock mostly goes away when one is pulled, you've located a bad piston/rod/bearing. Engine pulling time..." - splatterdog and the knock did not go away, "mostly&...

Re: Cold Weather Blues

Update: Compression check was: Cylinder 1: 100 Cylinders 2-4: 120 Pulled the valve cover and we couldn't see anything amiss but it's still knockin' like a Jehovah's Witness. So this car starts right up, seems to have decent compression (unless the 100 on #1 is cause for concern; is it?), but knocks ...

Re: Cold Weather Blues

Too cold right now to do anything but...drive the other car!

We're doing the comp check and pulling the valve cover this weekend, followed (inevitably, I'm afraid) by pulling the head.

Re: Cold Weather Blues

Very informative and dense stuff, Petros. Thanks for putting in the typestrokes.

It's supposed to get down below zero again next week; we're shooting for the weekend to pull the head.

Re: Cold Weather Blues

OK, I pulled the plugs . 1 and 3 are heavily corroded with light tan deposits. 2 and 4 looked okay. I switched them around (put 4 where 1 was moved the rest "up" a number) and of course it's still knockin' and bangin' like mad; worse than earlier today. I'm doing a compression check tomorr...

Re: Cold Weather Blues

Update: OK, after letting her sit for a couple hours, she started right up. I think I had flooded it. Here's the catch: it's running but with a nasty knocking and loss of power. It sounds like what I think is a sticky/busted valve, and it feels like maybe I'm running on 3 cylinders (not metaphorical...

Re: Cold Weather Blues

OK, popped in the new battery and it turned over endlessly without starting. It was acting just like it's out of gas (which its not). So I dropped a bit of gas into the carb and still nothing. So as the wife was towing me, I thought what the hell and popped it into 2nd gear. It started. We stopped a...

Re: Cold Weather Blues

Thanks for the input fellows. I just tried to jump it again (and bump it) to no avail. I'm awaiting the wife with the new battery at the moment. Petros, what are the symptoms of a blown head gasket? If the battery and starter are working OK, how is a motor with a blown gasket going to behave? I have...

Cold Weather Blues

Well, I've got a dead Tercel in the Rockies. Here's what happened yesterday. It was about 5 degrees in the morning. I hit the starter and got the "frozen everything" sound: just a slow gurning sound that drained the battery in a couple minutes. I put a heat blower under the car and jumped ...

Re: Repair guide for replacing front axles?

Thanks!

All done. Piece of cake, really. We did it with 2 people (one of whom has done it before) in about 2 hours using axles pulled off one of our recent junkers. Only downside is we skewed the alignment so the car pulls to the left, so that' s the next project.

Repair guide for replacing front axles?

Hi guys, I can't seem to locate (what I assume is here) a complete guide for installing both D and P side front axles. I've got the assemblies ready to go, but would love your advice, i.e. how long is this gonna take? Snow is forecast for tomorrow, and I can put in about 4 hours tonight before I fre...

Re: Can't seem to reply to PM's

Apparently, they are "sent" when they are read by the recipient; otherwise, they stick around in your outbox til then.

Riiiiight...how many years on the internet and that's the first time I've seen that kind of messaging.
